Start of the Carbon Coating & flange impedance reduction campaign: Coat 10% of the drift tubes (intervention in LSS4); QF up to QF with corresponding SSS; MBB 50530, 50550, 50470, 50490, 50730, 50750, and 50690 QD and with SSS; DS LSS ARC BA4 BA5 existing aC SSS QF works MBB works Drift tube works 9 SSS QF to transport 2 SSS QD to transport 2 QD to transport 10 drifts to transport Vacuum sector valves Extraction septum All magnet removal (& return) via BA3 Support from EN-HE, TE-MSC, EN-SU 28/09/2016 TE-VSC SPS planning EYETS2016/17

16 dipoles & 5 Quads ex-situ aC coated in LS1 Only MBB type dipoles need to be coated following LIU Scrubbing Review EYETS – trial of in-situ aC coating of 8 MBB (ECR: ) Remove QD and sss QD in 2 locations in arc 5- (transport via BA3) Install aC coating equipment in 6m space created and coat 2 x MBB to left and right. aC coat QD and sss QD ex-situ. aC Coating BA4 & BA5 QF coating & impedance reduction works - sextant 4-5 QF and sss QF chambers need to be aC coated following LIU Scrubbing Review sss QF chambers need impedance reduction shielding at circular bellows & flanges for LIU. EYETS – trial of aC coating and impedance reduction at 9 QF & sss QF ECR and Remove sss QF in 9 locations in arc 4+ (transport via BA3) Install aC coating equipment in 2.8 m space and coat QF in-situ. aC coat plus IR shielding on 9 sss QF ex-situ in 867. 11 Component Testing Please inform TE-VSC regarding any components to be installed in the vacuum systems as soon as possible, after ECR approval. All the components need to be submitted for acceptance test to the VSC-BVO section before 01/12/2016. If any component that is due to be installed in the machine during the EYETS is submitted for vacuum acceptance test after this date, the activity has to be taken into account in the general installation planning. In this case our resources will be divided between the machine activities and the lab activities, with possible delays on the installation. 28/09/2016 TE-VSC SPS planning EYETS2016/17

13 COLDEX EYETS 2016-17 (in order of priority) VACUUM
Installation of a new Beam Screen with LESS laser treatment SPS beam vacuum (sect. 430) + COLDEX (sect. 431) venting and opening Not before Feb/March 2017 (follows fabrication and treatment planning) WAMPAC5 calorimeters installation (a-C and Cu or LESS) replace the WAMPAC4 installed in COLDEX DN100 SS left/right transitions (sector 431) insertion of new liners and preparation is done in surface (b. 867) New instrumentation on COLDEX chimney full coverage of the to 100 mbar measurement range → installation of two gauges DIC/DIF sent On-site fix of malfunctioning experimental equipment TT903 and TT905 sensors (degraded); BS electrode (bad insulation) reduces to TT905 fix if a new BS is installed Consolidation + re-fill of Gas Injection System 1 gauge probably broken (radiation) → installation of PI/PE gauges change of N2 with CH4 (to be confirmed), re-fill of other gases only if required bake-out required if system is vented

Replacement of malfunctioning experimental equipment 1 flowmeter broken (radiation) → replacement with spare General maintenance and check-out OTHERS Installation of Beam Loss Monitors (BLM) follows HL-LHC request to have beam loss indication at COLDEX in collaboration with BE/BI basic setup: one monitor upstream, one on COLDEX ECR required? DIC/DIF sent Installation of protections on sect. 430/431 ground supports follows new design by EN/MME to be validated in a second version of ECR SPS-HJP-EC
