Direct Object Pronouns
2
A direct object is the person or thing receiving the action of the verb:
Ils achètent le gâteau. They are buying the cake. Buying is the action, cake is receiving the action.
3
Direct objects can be nouns or pronouns, and are replaced by direct object pronouns:
me nous us te you (sing., fam.) vous you (formal, plural) le/la him/her/it les them
4
In the present tense, place the direct object pronoun in front of the verb (or in front of the infinitive if there is an infinitive): Ils vont regarder le défile? Are they going to watch the parade? Oui, ils vont le regarder. Yes, they’re going to watch it. Je vous invite chez moi. I am inviting all of you to my house. Tu nous invites tous? C’est très gentil! You’re inviting all of us? That’s very nice!
5
Me, te, le, la change to m’, t’, l’, and l’ in front of a vowel sound:
Ma mère m’envoie une carte d’anniversaire?
