1. PRESERVATION PLAN FOR THE SEYCHELLES FISHING AUTHORITY Documentation Centre

2. Introduction:
The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) is a Parastatal organization which functions as the executive arm of Government for fisheries and related matters. The Authority was created in August 1984 by the Seychelles Fishing Authority (Establishment Act), at a time of intense development in the sector. The SFA’s operations are guided by a Board of Directors, appointed by the President of the Republic of Seychelles.

3. Collections:
The Documentation Centre was established in It has a collection of over 5,000 volumes including reports, books, serials, journals, maps, charts, posters, videos, CD ROMs, etc. The collection covers a wide range of subjects including aquaculture, marine research, fisheries statistics, marine resources, fisheries technology, scientific expedition, legislation, oceanography, processing of marine products, fisheries management etc.
The collection also includes publication of other international organizations concerned with fisheries and marine environment such as FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), UNEP (United Nation Environment Programme), ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas), IOC (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission), SPC (Secretariat of the Pacific Community) etc.
The unique part however is the collection on the Seychelles Fisheries and other countries in the region.

4. Equipment Needs: A good scanner to scan our documents
A bigger binding machine
A photocopying machine
Good Filing Cabinets
Vacuum cleaner

5. Preservation
As a preservation plan therefore since we have a big problem with spacing I would discuss with my colleague that we try to preserve some books that normally just sits on the shelves we do copies, digitize them & put them in archives & use the space with books that normally users tend to use more

6. Another one is I will try to preserve the original photos & posters in the library by copies.
As much as possible to stop doing lamination when users request & explain them the damage laminate can do to their original document.

7. Recommendations:
Additional space should be provided with the necessary shelving for better organization of the present collection to allow for growth.
Plan our storage collections.
Identify, Priotize our collections
