Schematic representation of the assignment of analysis filters to electrodes. In each panel the assignment of the 20 analysis filters to the 20 electrodes is represented for three of the six conditions. The top panel depicts the standard clinical speech processor condition in which each filter is assigned to one electrode. The middle panel represents the 7-electrode condition, in which selected electrodes receive the output of three adjacent filters. The lower panel represents the 4-electrode condition, in which selected electrodes receive the output of five adjacent filters.
