3 FMCA Plugtest FMCA carried out plugfest to test interoperability of MIH implementations: Use Cases originally generated by FMCA members Test Cases proposed by Final detailed test cases worked out by FMCA with help from ETSI Plugtests Event hosted by ETSI at Sophia Antipolis offices, October 5-9, 2009 Use cases included 3G, WiFi and WiBro technologies High level of protocol interoperabilty was achieved, and implementations were also demonstrated at the event IEEE-ISTO Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) staff also participated in the event. FMCA will produce detailed report in a public White Paper by the end of the year 21-09/0192r1

“FMCA Successfully Completes First Ever Interoperability Event to Test Seamless Mobility Using the IEEE Standard Friday 23 October 2009 Global equipment Vendors and Operators from around the world recently participated in the FMCA Seamless Mobility Interoperability Event hosted by ETSI at their headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France. The IEEE standard was introduced at the beginning of 2009 and offers a number of services which facilitate heterogeneous handovers and service continuity. IEEE compliant clients and servers were used to test interoperability for several seamless mobility scenarios defined by FMCA Operators. Making voice and video applications on the move a seamless experience using Wi-Fi and 3G was one of key requirements addressed. The excellent interoperability results observed during the event come as no surprise as this follows several months of close collaboration between FMCA Operators and IEEE to define detailed test specifications to meet the needs of Operators for seamless mobility. During the event Operators and Vendors also had the opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of IEEE and were able to show seamless handovers of video and voice calls between 3G, Wi-Fi and WIBRO access technologies. The FMCA is now preparing a white paper to summarise the findings from the event and will also be using the experiences gained to develop best practice guidelines for Seamless Mobility. Participants at the event included: BT Group, Korea Telecom, InterDigital, Telcordia, Toshiba, Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, Telenor, Telecom New Zealand, Deutsche Telekom and Instituto de Telecomunicações. IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) staff also participated in the event. ICAP encourages and facilitates the development of new conformity and interoperability programs associated with IEEE standards, and is a supporter of the efforts of the FMCA and the event participants in demonstrating IEEE interoperability.
