Compounded Prescription
It is a prescription that include drugs prepared by the pharmacist at the time of dispensing which are not available as a patent preparation. They are prepared by mixing two or more drugs in variety o f dosage forms including capsules, solutions , ointments, creams, packets or lotions.

2. Reasons
1- To maske a well known drugs from the patient which physician convinced that it is the required treatment :
Example:
Diazepam 2mg
Paracetamol 500mg.
Mitte (make) 30 caps
This preparation is useful as analgesic and muscle relaxant.

2- in case of unavailability of small doses: Example : Phenobarbitone 5mg Glucose Add Q.S ( quantiata suficienta) Mitte 30 packets This preparation is useful in the treatment of febrile convulsion in neonates ,, because the drug in the tablet form is available in a strength of mg.

4. This preparation is useful for fungal infections

3- In case of unavailability of certain ingredient needed for treatment of certain disease in one patent drug
Example :
Salicylic acid 3gm
Benzoic acid 6gm
Alcohol add to 100ml
This preparation is useful for fungal infections
( tinea interdigitalis).

5. This preparation is useful in treatment of acute attack of migraine
Cont.
4- when patent compound is not available and it is needed for our patients
Example :
Ergotamine 0.5mg
Metoclopramide 10 mg
Paracetamol 500 mg
Make 30 caps
