Session identifies the role of leadership in these challenging times and levels of leadership. Example NCEMA & NGC. Participants identify their level and reasons to aspire to desirable higher levels. Primary responsibility of Leaders is to make us feel safe Video & Discussion: Let us watch short video on why good leaders should make us feel safe. How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. 3 Leadership Levels Positional Level: Key – Rights & Titles
People don’t like to follow people because they have to follow people. Downside - They give the least of their efforts. Permission Level: Key – Relationship & Influence People start to follow you because they want to. You have connected with your people. You are a Leader that people like. Discuss - How Many have worked for or with someone that you just do not like? Relationship with people is the foundation of leadership Aspects – Listen Well, Observe & Learn. Know how to serve. Production Level: Key – Results Starting to help bottom line. You become effective. Produce by example - People do what people see. You are credible. You model for them best practice. You attract people who are productive. And encourage others to follow. You have momentum and solve problems creatively at this level. Momentum is a leaders best friend. Example objectives At the end of this lesson, you will be able to: Save files to the team Web server. Move files to different locations on the team Web server. Share files on the team Web server. People Development Level: Appreciate & Commit to your people. People are the most important asset of a company. You must improve their capacity. Recruit Well – Team win with the best players Position them well – Find your people’s niche. Successful people position themselves well but successful leaders position others well to be productive. Pinnacle Level: Respect This is where people absolutely follow you because you have done it so well with so many for so long. They follow you because of who you are and what you have done. 7 Reasons to Want Higher Levels of Leadership
Clearly higher levels are advantageous and desirable for overall health of company and the bottom line as mentioned but other than productivity and getting the best from your people what are the other reasons. 8 Summary Importance of leadership in a challenging world to make us feel safe and for us to be the best that we can. The five levels – We must grow beyond positional leadership and try to get to the pinnacle of leadership: You must understand when you cast a vision that those you lead see you in one of these levels. It is different for every one and to be successful you need to understand how they see you and work to elevate perception appropriately.
