4 Fund for Youth Connectivity
Goals Provide OY access to new mobile devices/tablets and connectivity Help OY gain new skills to use those devices to take positive action in their communities and amplify their voices Connect opportunity youth to jobs, education and other important life skills such as financial management, healthcare, and transportation The Fund for Youth Connectivity aims to provide opportunity youth, young people between the ages of 16 to 24 who are neither enrolled in school nor participating in the labor market, access to new mobile devices/tablets and connectivity, and help them gain new skills to use those devices to take positive action in their communities. By connecting and providing training these opportunity youth, we anticipate that the ripple effects of this relatively modest number of youth may help to better the lives of many more opportunity youth across the United States.

Partners Google.org OYU: Serving 100 OY 2-3 OYIF Communities: Serving a total of 150 OY Through a grant from Google.org, FYC will leverage its deep bench of technical assistance resources and partners throughout the country for this project. We will partner with Opportunity Youth United, a national youth leadership organization, to serve 100 opportunity youth, as well as two to three sites from across AFCS’s extensive network of opportunity youth serving communities to serve an additional 150 opportunity youth.

Be a current OYIF site Dedicate the large majority of grant funds to mobile devices, connectivity and local youth media partner Youth media partner must have a demonstrated willingness or confirmed commitment to working on this project Implementation and OY training must be completed within 12 months of the start date Willing to collect and share programmatic and outcome data

Have an established partnership with a local media organization Focus on creating more equitable outcomes for specific groups, such as, but not limited to, young men and boys of color, young women and girls of color, youth involved in the child welfare system or transitioning out of foster care, youth involved in the juvenile justice system or parenting youth

8 Fund for Youth Connectivity Technology & Program Design Specifications
OY who receive the devices/connectivity do not need to be the same OY who receive the media production training Buying new plans/devices for youth recipients is not a re-grant requirement Basic skills training should include how to use the device, general online safety training, and privacy training, at minimum OY media production training should include approximately 2 sessions, and include production of a 2-3 minute biographic video Selected OYIF sites will send at least one representative to attend a session at the OYIF Spring 2018 convening on digital literacy and competency We recognize that this is a modest grant so, OY who receive the devices and connectivity do not need to be the same OY who receive the media production training. At minimum basic skills training should include how to use the device, general online safety training, and privacy training. In addition to skills training sites will provide media production training should include approximately 2 sessions, and include production of a 2-3 minute biographic video which will be shared across partners in the project (local organizations in the grant, OYU, and AFCS) and which can be used by any of these partners. In addition to the training sites provide, AFCS is developing a toolkit for OY on Social Media best practices and Smart/Safe Cell Use. The media production training organization will secure appropriate releases and copyright assignation as needed. Buying new plans/devices for youth recipients is not a re-grant requirement. FYC funds can be used to reimburse youth who already have plans to assist them in their payments. Selected OYIF sites will send at least one representative to attend a session at the OYIF Spring 2018 convening on digital literacy and competency which they will take back to their communities to teach and integrate into their youth development and training efforts.

Proposal Components Application Cover Sheet Proposal Narrative (not to exceed 5 pages; your response to section 1 should not exceed 1 page) Letter of commitment and/or Memoranda of Understanding from media partner Copy of organization’s 501(c)3 letter (if applicable)

Submission Process Proposals are due, by electronic submission, to the attention of: Christina Kostuk, Deadline for submission is August 31st, 2017 by 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time Funding decisions will be announced by COB September 7, 2017
