3 What are houses like? Most houses in England are made of stone or brick from the local area where the houses are built. The colours of the stones and bricks vary across the country

A detached house A detached house is not joined to any other

These two houses are over 600 hundred years old. They were built during the Tudor times.

6 A semi-detached house A semi detached house is a  house which is joined to another house on one side.

7 This house was built when Queen Victoria was on the throne 100 years ago.

8 A terraced house Terrace house is a house which is part of a line of houses. It is a  house which is joined to other houses on two sides

9 A block of flats A flat is a part of a bigger
building where all the flats share a front door.

10 A Bungalow A bungalow is a house which is only on one
floor, no stairs. It may be joined to another bungalow or might stand alone.

11 Types of houses in England Manor house A large house in the country or a village, the center of a manor.

12 The most popular type of house in England is semi-detached (more than 27% of all homes), closely followed by detached then terraced

I live in a detached house. This means that my house is not joined to another house. My house is made of bricks and tiles. In my house there are three rooms downstairs and three rooms upstairs. We have central heating which keeps our house warm. Some houses have an open fire place but we don't.
