2. Active Shooter
If You Witness Any Armed Individual At Any Time Or If An Individual Is Acting In A Hostile Or Belligerent Manner, Immediately Contact The Police At Or Dial 911.

3. Profile of an Active Shooter
An Active Shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.
Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims.
Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

4. Indicators of Potential Violence by an Employee
Increased Use Of Alcohol And/Or Illegal Drugs
Unexplained Increase In Absenteeism; Vague Physical Complaints
Noticeable Decrease In Attention To Appearance And Hygiene
Depression / Withdrawal
Resistance And Overreaction To Changes In Policy And Procedures
Repeated Violations Of Company Policies
Increased Severe Mood Swings
Noticeably Unstable, Emotional Responses

5. Indicators of Potential Violence by an Employee
Explosive Outbursts Of Anger Or Rage Without Provocation
Suicidal; Comments About “Putting Things In Order”
Behavior Which Is Suspect Of Paranoia, (“Everybody Is Against Me”)
Increasingly Talks Of Problems At Home
Escalation Of Domestic Problems Into The Workplace; Talk Of Severe Financial Problems
Talk Of Previous Incidents Of Violence
Empathy With Individuals Committing Violence
Increase In Unsolicited Comments About Firearms, Other Dangerous Weapons And Violent Crimes

6. Outside Area Active Shooter
Try To Remain Calm.
Move Away From The Active Shooter Or The Sounds Of Gunshot(s) And/Or Explosion(s)
Look For Appropriate Locations For Cover/Protection, I.E. Brick Walls, Retaining Walls, Large Trees, Parked Vehicles, Or Any Other Object That May Stop Bullet Penetration. When You Reach A Place Of Relative Safety, Stay Down And Do Not Move. Do Not Peek Or Raise Your Head In An Effort To See What May Be Happening.
Drop To The Ground Immediately, Face Down As Flat As Possible. If Within Feet Of A Safe Place Or Cover, Duck And Run To It.

7. Outside Area Active Shooter
Move Or Crawl Away From Gunfire, Trying To Utilize Any Obstructions Between You And The Gunfire. Remember That Many Objects Of Cover May Conceal You From Sight, But May Not Be Bulletproof.
Try To Warn Others To Take Immediate Shelter.
Wait And Listen For Directions From Law Enforcement Personnel
Call 911 And Provide The Information Listed In The Guideline.

8. Inside a Building

9. Run Have An Escape Route And Plan In Mind.
Leave Your Belongings Behind.
Help Others Escape, If Possible.
Evacuate Regardless Of Others.
Warn/Prevent Individuals From Entering.
Do Not Attempt To Move Wounded People.
Keep Your Hands Visible.
Follow Police Instructions.
Call 911 When Safe.

10. Hide Your Hiding Spot Should: Be Out Of The Active Shooter’s View.
Provide Protection If Shots Are Fired. (A Wall May Not Stop Bullets, Get Behind Something Solid).
Not Restrict Options For Movement.

11. Keeping Yourself Safe While Hiding
If The Shooter Is Nearby:
Lock The Door.
Hide Behind Large Item (E.G., Cabinet, Desk).
Silence Cell Phone/Pager.
Remain Quiet.

12. Important Information
Provide Law Enforcement Or 911 Operators With:
Location Of Shooter.
Number Of Shooters.
Physical Description Of Shooters.
Number And Types Of Weapons.
Number Of Potential Victims.

13. Fight As An Absolute Last Resort: Act As Aggressively As Possible.
Improvise Weapons And Throw Items.
Commit To Your Actions.
Secure Shooter If can be Done Safely, Otherwise Escape
