1 Evaluating a Training Programme
When evaluating these programmes I need you to consider the following points.

2 Points to consider What are the components of fitness that your sport demands. Has the programme stuck to sound principles of training. How specific is what they have. Give details think about training methods used are they suitable for the sport. Is it progressive? Give details Overload (FITT) How have they achieved this or not. Consider intensity levels (training zones) Will there be reversibility? Have they avoided tedium? Remember you are a scientist use subject specific terminology and be methodical. Revise your notes if necessary before charging in.

4 Periodisation Organising training to allow you to reach a peak level of performance for a certain time of year/event. For Example in football: Off Season: June, July = rest and recovery but keep base level of aerobic fitness going. Pre-season: July = Build up aerobic fitness, decide on team tactics and work on speed. Peak season: August to May = maintain fitness levels (so if there is no game have a fitness session to keep match sharp.) Key is too manage the amount they do to keep players fresh.

5 Homework Produce a training programme like the examples you have analysed (same format) Identify the sport and most important components of fitness. Draw out your programme and write a sentence or two stating how you have applied the principles of training.
