1 Layout of Detectors for CLIC
André Sailer (PH-LCD) MDI Meeting September 25th, 2009

2 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
Outline CLIC Detector Concepts: ILD and SiD like Details for CLIC_ILD Numbers for CLIC_ILD and CLIC_SiD Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

3 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
ILC Detector Concepts SiD ILD 6.6m length Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

4 From ILC to CLIC Detectors
Detectors for CLIC (3 TeV) are based on the two Detectors for ILC (500GeV) Changes: Hadron Calorimeter (due to higher energetic Jets) 20 mrad crossing angle (instead of 14 mrad) Vertex Detector, due to Beam-Beam Background For CLIC_SiD: Moved Coil to 2.9m (CMS Like) CLIC_ILD Length: 7.1m (not to Scale) CLIC_SiD Length: 6.9m Height: 6.9 m Height: 7.0 m Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

5 CLIC_ILD: Vertex and Forward Trackers
Vertex Detector: 3 double Layers of Silicon Sensors At: 31, 46, 60 mm Radius, each 25 cm long (Z=±12.5cm) Forward Tracking: 7 Disks Inner Radius: Beam pipe Outer Radius: ~30 cm (For last 5 Disks) Beam pipe: Conical shape up to LumiCal LumiCal 60 cm Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI 0.0 m 2.5 m

6 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
LumiCal LumiCal Silicon-Tungsten (Si-W) Sandwich Calorimeter Counts Bhabha events to measure Luminosity Centered on Outgoing Beam axis Inner radius: 10 cm Incoherent Pairs Outer Radius: Between 25 and 35 cm No material allowed between LumiCal and IP Multiple scattering, Bremsstrahlung Conical Beam pipe Increase outer radius of LumiCal  Decrease angular coverage of Forward Tracking Disks It must be studied how a cone smaller than LumiCal affects the Luminosity measurement Tracking coverage indirectly determines inner radius for calorimeter Endcaps Space for Quadrupole and Support 60 cm 2.5 m 3.5 m 60 cm Picture of the Detector, or right away close up of the interesting parts, and a table detailing numbers, as well as the numbers for the SID like detector… Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

7 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
BeamCal BeamCal (with 10cm graphite) (?)-Tungsten Sandwich Calorimeter Located on outgoing beam pipe ~3.5 cm inner radius Outer radius to complement LumiCal coverage (~20 cm) Dump for incoherent pairs Collision/Luminosity Monitoring? Masking against back-scattering particles from post-collision line Electron Veto for 2-photon events Smaller inner radius desirable Needs more work 60 cm 2.5 m 3.5 m Picture of the Detector, or right away close up of the interesting parts, and a table detailing numbers, as well as the numbers for the SID like detector… Side Graphite – (?) - W Front Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

8 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
QD0 QD0 R=35mm Inner radius for Endcaps CLIC_ILD: 35 cm CLIC_SiD: 26 cm Add ~10 cm masking Protect Calorimeter Anti-Solenoid? QD0 Prototype 33cm height Should fit into forward region Easier for CLIC_ILD than for CLIC_SiD How is the Magnet attached to support structure? How far do the coils extend beyond 3.5 m? 60 cm 2.5 m 3.5 m 33 cm Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

9 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
Outgoing Beam Pipe Conical Vacuum Tube 10 mrad QD0 design reserved 10 mrad aperture for outgoing beam Fill completely with beam pipe Looks good from back-ground point of view How close can it really be? 60 cm 20 cm 2.5 m 3.5 m XY-View of QD0 and beam pipe Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI 60 cm 10cm Masking

Detectors in Numbers CLIC_ILD CLIC_SiD Muon System, Yoke Barrel Radius 444 – 699 cm 373 – 685 cm Barrel Z 405 cm 380 cm Endcap Radius 30 – 699 cm 26 – 685 cm Endcap Z 407 – 712 cm 380 – 693 cm LumiCal Z 245 cm 168 cm LumiCal Radius 10 – (20 to 35?) cm 8.7 – 25 cm BeamCal Z 318 – 345 cm 298 – 325 cm BeamCal Radius 3.5 – 25 cm ~3.5 – 25 cm Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

12 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
Possible Changes Incomplete List, what comes to mind now: Length of the Barrel Moves Endcaps outward Less Distance between LumiCal & BeamCal QD0 “further inside” the Detector Some ideas how to reduce thickness of Iron Yoke (H. Gerwig) Design choices should be motivated by physics Work on the physics benchmark processes has just started Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI

13 Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
Summary Two detectors based on ILC concepts are being studied by the LCD Project Dimensions subject to change pending physics results Numbers for guidance are given For CLIC_SiD space in forward region more limited For CLIC_ILD present QD0 design seems to fit Andre Sailer - LCD Layout - MDI
