4 Electron (e-) and 4He time profiles from Helios-1 (0
Electron (e-) and 4He time profiles from Helios-1 (0.3 AU) and IMP-8 (1 AU) during a series of events in 1980 (from Wibberenz and Cane 2006). Helios observed at least five injections, which are smoothed out to a single event at 1 AU.

5 Suprathermal Session SWG-14 Morning Sept 14 Sept 14-15
Smithsonian Castle, Washington DC Morning Sept 14 Joe Giacalone — Suprathermal Sources Eberhard Moebius — Pickup Ions George Gloecker — The Inner Source of Pickup Ions Mihir Desai — Observations and compositional constraints George Ho — Radial evolution

6 SWG session: radial evolution of particle distribution functions and wave-particle interactions
Organized by Mike Stevens & Justin Kasper SPP wave-particle measurements Justin Kasper, University of Michigan Recent advances in understanding heating of protons and electrons in a turbulent plasma Bill Matthaeus, University of Delaware Accessing the kinetic physics relevant to solar wind heating through measurements of velocity distribution functions Kris Klein, University of Michigan Open discussion, contributions related to strategies – objectives – recent progress

7 The Structure of the HPS
Motivation What is the fine-scale structure of the HPS? Is it smooth or intermittent? Does the structure depend on the type of HPS (streamer or pseudo-streamer)? What is the relation between HPS and HCS at different heliocentric distances? How can we tell? Multi-instrument Requirements/Synergy SWEAP: Thermal plasma measurements, WISPR: high resolution context imaging, 3D density reconstructions. FIELDS: Magnetic field magnitude and direction measurements Simulation (left) of a face-one streamer viewed compared to the data (right). From Thernisien & Howard ,ApJ, 642 (2006) Speakers: M. Stevens: Wind & DSCOVR observations of plasma near the HCS. N. Viall: density fluctuations. A. Szabo: 1 AU magnetic signatures of the HPS. P. Liewer: Simulations of Streamer Observations from WISPR V. Bothmer: Lessons from HELIOS A. Vourlidas: SECCHI imaging of the HPS

8 Logistics for SWG Meeting
The closest hotel is the Holiday Inn Capitol.  (3 blocks) The Hyatt is near NASA HQ and walkable (6 blocks) dcnationalmall.place.hyatt.com The Hotel Monaco is near the Art museum and has free wine each day with a great restaurant- Poste(7 blocks away) monaco-dc.com
