2 Namaste is a traditional Hindu greeting based on the belief that each one of us is a part of God or the Divine. 

3 Diyas symbolize the knowledge that destroys negative traits such as anger, jealousy, greed, fear or suffering.

4 Diwali is a time for Hindus to visit the temple and pray for the wellbeing of their family and friends….and for peace for all living beings in this world.

5 Rangoli, made of colored powder, dry grains and/or flowers, adorns the doorstep to welcome guests with honor. Diwali is a season for visiting with friends and family.

6 Sweets, or mithais, are enjoyed during Diwali.

7 Savory snacks, like samosas, are also relished to the last crumb.

8 New clothing is worn to pay respect to Goddess Lakshmi for blessings of prosperity, good health and good fortune.

9 Traditional dances add to the festivities.

10 In addition to diyas, firecrackers light up the streets.

11 Diwali means family, friends, fun, food, festivity, and firecrackers
