2 ELCT Lutheran Radio Centre
The Lutheran Radio Centre is connecting many millions of listeners with the Lutheran Church

3 Live transmission from Moshi town church
Only two minutes left before the live transmission starts

4 In the OB van „Lets get started, the bishops are coming!“

5 Back in the Studio: Vera still gives the listener a short overfiew of what is to follow. Then she hands over the microphone to the producer on site!

6 Team in the Studio The Lutheran Radio centre has about 20 co-workers to run all the programs for 24 hours each day, inclusive watchmen and cleaning personnel. There is a doctors health program, very recent „How do we avoid Cholera to spread?“ There are programs for Women rights, Injustice in the families, a farm program which helps the small farmers to increase production. There is a special program for traffic education, very important if you look at the many traffic accidents. But of course we have preaching and Bible teaching programs, Sunday services and Evangelizations.

7 All the workflow is digitalized !
All our workflow is digitalized. That means: All programs are recorded digitally, are edited with the computer, Introduction and closing added and are archived on the server. On this server we have even more than song titles, many of them being recorded in the studio since 1962. A producer is moderating the programs in the FM Live room, they are played and get to the transmitter digitally again where they are aired.

8 Music production Even the music production is multitrack digital to get best ever quality.

9 Transmitter network Our FM network has 10 transmitter stations in the North- Eastern part of Tanzania (red footprints). We are working together with the other ELCT diocese radio stations (Other colors on map): „Upendo Radio“, Dar Es Salaam, „Utume Radio“ in Lushoto and „Radio Furaha“ in Iringa. As you see on the map you have to travel really far if you want to reach some of the transmitters!

10 Example : Transmitter Kibaya
You are on the way for a hole day most of it on dirt roads to reach there!

11 Sender Kibaya Working on the „Posta Mountain“ you are relying on what you have brought with you!

12 Sender Morogoro On Bondwa/Morogoro you still have to walk up 4 hours to reach the transmitter. Then you have to do your work on the cold, wet, windy tower. There are another 4 hours to get down to the car!

13 Going up to Same booster
Donation of Church of Sweden 2015 Going up to Same booster That’s the way up to Same Booster! Thank you so much for the generator for Kidia, main booster !

14 Transmitter Tanga on the Indian Ocean
We have to move up the transmitter in Tanga town to increase the range of the station. It will cover Tnga, Segera and half way down to Chalinze, where the transmitter from Morogoro will take over. But the best thing is: Every minute we are on air we reach more people than all the Lutheran churches in Tanzania can hold on Sunday morning! Is that not a challenge for the church? Why does „Sauti ya Injili“ not cover all the ELCT yet?

15 What is the difference? Radio Maria Lutheran Radio Centre
Is that not a challenge for the church? Why does „Sauti ya Injili“ not cover all the ELCT yet? Lutheran Radio Centre is second oldest Radio in Tanzania, and all these transmitters had been on place before Radio Maria even started in Songea! All Transmitters of the Lutheran Radio Centre were receiving their signal „Out of the air“ from each other! The Lutheran Radio Centre grew over the years by the minimum amount available. Radio Maria was planned to have coverage of hole Tanzania, but that is not really possible with just 10 FM stations because of the limitation of FM range Radio Maria is connected by satellite Radio Maria is running high power stations we can just dream of: The equipment and monthly Diesel and Tanesco Budget! Behind Radio Maria are all Catholic Christians of Tanzania, and the Vatican pays for the satellite channel! Radio Maria Lutheran Radio Centre

16 What are the Challenges?
The church has to use its tool to show its Lutheran Identity (Focus: Communication Desk Arusha) The LRC needs to be on a financial stable ground We need a satellite channel to connect to all dioceses We need to expand the FM transmitters to the South of Tanzania receiving from the satellite The Radio Stations on the diocese level should be included in the network, but they have to re-transmit all common programs to strengthen the Lutheran Identity Talk about the challenges
