3 Application

4 Bible Application Not all religious people approach the Bible the same way. Some (including religious persons) believe the Bible is not the word of God, or they believe that it is part God’s word and part man’s word – full of myths and legends that must be “demythologized.”

5 Bible Application Some believe the Bible contains errors and contradictions. Some believe the Bible is not complete. Some believe the Bible is not understandable. Some believe the Bible is not our sole guide in life.

6 Bible Application Some believe the Bible is a good piece of English literature on par with the works of Plato or Shakespeare. Some believe the Bible is a good book of moral platitudes – a book of “do’s and don’ts.” Some believe the Bible is a charm or “wonder- book,” such as a special “anointed Bible.” Some believe the Bible is a good “safety deposit box” for family keep-sakes.

7 Bible Application We must not be like Israel who had a wrong view of God’s word: “I wrote for him the ten thousand things of my law; but they are counted as a strange thing” (Hosea 8:12). What you believe about the Bible before you open it up, will determine what you do with the Bible after you open it up.

8 The Bible Is My… Teaching and preaching (Acts 8:30-32; 17:2, 11; 18:28) Building up (Acts 20:32) Learning (Rom. 4:23-24) Comfort (Rom. 15:14) Admonition (1 Cor. 10:11).

9 The Bible Is My… Defense (Eph. 6:17) Pattern (2 Tim. 1:13)
Blessing (Heb. 6:5) Discernment (Heb. 4:12-13) Exhortation (Heb. 13:22; 1 Pet. 5:12)

11 I Must Never… Neglect it (2 K. 22:8; Hos. 4:6) Refuse it (Jer. 36:32)
Make it void (Mt. 15:6) Close my eyes to it (Acts 13:27; 2 Cor. 3:14; 4:4-6) Misuse it (2 Cor. 2:17; 4:2)

12 I Must Never… Blaspheme it (Tit. 2:5) Twist it (2 Pet. 3:16)

13 I Must Always… Love it (Psa. 119:97, 113, 163, 165)
Will to know it (Jn. 7:17) Do it (Lk. 8:21; Rev. 1:3; 22:7, 9; see also Josh. 23:6) Read it (Acts 8:28-32; Col. 4:16; 1 Thess. 5:27; 1 Tim. 4:13; see also Deut. 17:9; 31:11; Josh. 8:34-35; 2 K. 23:2; Neh. 8:3; Jer. 36:6)

14 I Must Always… Meditate on it (Josh. 1:8; Psa. 1:1)
Respect it (Isa. 66:3, 5; 2 K. 22:11) Know it (Mt. 22:29; Acts 18:24; 2 Tim. 3:15) Search it (Jn. 5:39; Acts 17:11) Hear it (Acts 13:7; 13:44, 46)

15 I Must Always… Rightly divide it (2 Tim. 2:15)
Study it (2 Pet. 1:5; 3:18)

It Takes Me to Heaven! God’s Word Will Be My Judge in the Last Day (Rev. 20:15) … So, Give Me the Bible!
