2. ASB ASB stands for “associated student body”
ASB’s mission is to excite, support, and love the student body
Examples of what we do: recognition of sports and clubs, plan assemblies, color run, food drive, work with Strong 4 Sam, teacher recognition, cram the stands events, greeting every morning, budget how to use our money each year, clean up after school and sports events, serve on the Issaquah School District board, winter wishes, spirit weeks and night events, and many more
The ASB class consists of:

3. Why a winter formal?
Highly requested by students
Dances are the most well attended ASB events- formal dances even more so
Casual events do not draw as big a crowd
With the postponing of the homecoming dance, not everyone that was planning on attending was able to
We have the funds to try it out this year

5. Format of dance DJ like homecoming and TOLO
Located in the gym, rather than the commons
There will be a coat/shoe check
Everyone’s shoes will be removed and socks will be given because heels damage the gym floor and everyone needs to have their shoes off
You can come alone, with a date, with a group, or however you would like

6. Dress Code
Formal attire
Students can….
Wear a short dress if they want to wear a short dress
Wear a long dress if they want to wear a long dress
Wear a suit if they want to wear a suit
Decide not to wear a suit if they don’t want to wear a suit
Etc…..
As this being the first year Issaquah will be holding a winter formal, there really are no expectations
Students can define for themselves what formal attire looks like
Students can collaborate with each other on what they are wearing if that is important to them

7. Tips for dealing with the cost
Sit down and have a talk with your student about a dance budget for each year
Encourage your student to help out with the cost (i.e. get a job)
Understand that many of the expenses associated with dances are unnecessary
Don’t get your hair done- do it at home
Don’t get your nails done- do it at home
Don’t get a spray tan- take advantage of this being a dance in winter! No one is tan!
Don’t spend a fortune on a dress- borrow or re-wear one
Don’t rent a party bus or limo- drive a car
Don’t buy a corsage/boutonniere- especially because there are no expectations with this dance
Don’t buy expensive shoes (they will be taken off at the dance)
Don’t go all out when inviting someone to a dance
Don’t go to an expensive restaurant before- eat at home or at a more affordable option
