Pleural fluid pH values in ten empyemas, ten benign effusions, and four loculated effusions. In empyemic group, pH was 6.93 ± 0.06 (± SE); it was 7.38 ± 0.02 in benign group. No overlap in pH was observed in benign effusions as compared to empyemas and loculated effusions.
