1 Accessibility Supports (Universal tools, designated supports, & accommodations) Required for School Test Coordinators and Test Administrators Welcome to the twenty-fifteen/sixteen test administration and security training. This is module 3, Statewide Assessment Accessibility Supports and is required for DTCs, STCs, and TAs. The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) strives to provide every student with a positive and productive assessment experience, generating results that are a fair and accurate estimate of each student’s achievement. ODE recognizes that generating assessment results that are fair and accurate depends on each and every student having appropriate supports when needed based on the constructs being measured by the assessment. This PowerPoint is designed to be an overview of Oregon’s statewide assessment accessibility supports and related considerations.

2 Big Picture Objectives
Understand the purpose of the statewide assessment accessibility supports Assigning Student Test Settings in TIDE Knowledge of current updates to Student and Test Administrator Interfaces The specific objectives of this module are to…(read slide)…; that is, the purpose of the Accessibility Supports… Are intended to reduce or even eliminate the effects of a student’s learning challenges during instruction and on the results of assessments. Do not compromise the learning expectations, construct, grade-level standard, and/or measured outcome of the assessment. Are the only supports allowed during testing. And our purpose in covering the assignment of student test settings in TIDE and Student and Test Administrator interfaces is to provide current updates related to these features of our assessment system—underscoring areas in need of your particular attention as you review the Test Administration Manual and Oregon Accessibility Manual in preparation for the assessment of students.

3 Preparing Students Having briefly considered the current updates and kinds of information that are called for when assigning student test settings, the remaining slides review some of the current updates to the Student Interface.

4 Practice Tests Allow teachers, students, parents and other interested parties to experience a range of item types Smarter Balanced ELA and Math, as well as Performance Tasks) Assist IEP/504 teams to determine which universal tools, designated supports, and accommodations are needed for each individual student to be successful on the assessments. 8 Oregon’s Statewide Assessment Accessibility Supports
Having briefly considered the import of practice prior to taking a statewide assessment, we turn our attention to the accessibility supports that are available to students to effectively participate in the statewide assessments; specifically, the Oregon Accessibility Manual where the various categories of assessment supports are found.

9 Oregon Accessibility Manual
The Oregon Accessibility Manual was developed to guide the selection and administration of universal tools, designated supports, and accommodations. The information in the Oregon Accessibility Manual applies to the following Oregon’s Statewide Assessments. These include: The Smarter Balanced Assessment (Smarter) in Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA); The Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) in Science and Social Sciences; The Extended Assessments (XA) in Mathematics, ELA, and Science; The Kindergarten Assessment (KA); and The English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA21) For Oregon’s statewide assessments, districts and schools can only make available to students the universal tools, designated supports, and accommodations that are included in the OAM. As the arrow indicates, a new Appendix A has been provided that delineates setting options for each accessibility support by assessment and identifies which User Roles are authorized to assign each support.

10 Know the Options Universal Tools Designated Supports Accommodations
Know the differences between the following categories of accessibility supports as well as the specific supports that are available for each statewide assessment: Universal Tools Access features of the assessment that are either provided as digitally delivered components of the test administration system or separate from it. Universal tools are available to all students based on student preference and selection. Designated Supports Access features of the assessment available for use by any student for whom the need has been indicated by an educator (or team of educators working with the parent/guardian and student). They are either provided as digitally delivered components of the test administration system or separate from it. Accommodations Changes in procedures or materials that increase equitable access during the statewide assessments. Assessment accommodations generate valid assessment results for students who need them; they allow these students to show what they know and can do. Access features that are only available to students on an IEP or 504 Plan.

12 Modification Any practice or procedure that compromises the intent of the assessment through a change in the learning expectations, construct, or content that is to be measured, grade-level standard, or measured outcome of the assessment and is not listed in Oregon’s Accessibility Manual (OAM). Please note: Assessments taken under any modified condition are counted as non-participants in all state and federal accountability measures and reports.

13 Changes for the 2015-16 School Year
TIDE Changes for the School Year Having participated in the practice tests and identified the accessibility supports available for students to effectively participate in the statewide assessments, we turn to the Test Information Distribution Engine (or TIDE) and a review of the current updates related to Student Test Settings.

14 Student Test Settings To align the organization and terminology with the Oregon Accessibility Manual , the TIDE Student Settings screen has been updated and streamlined, including: Student demographics and ethnicity fields have been removed Settings are organized by category: Embedded Designated Supports, Embedded Accommodations, and Test Access Non-embedded Designated Supports and the (Optional) Accommodation Code fields have been removed Terminology of supports are aligned to the terminology in the Oregon Accessibility Manual Student Settings upload template has been updated to align with the terminology in the Oregon Accessibility Manual READ SLIDE

15 View/Edit Students in TIDE
-All roles except DRVs and SRVs can update embedded designated supports. -All roles except DRVs, SRVs, and TTs can update embedded accommodation -Exception: Only DTCs and DLUs can update ELPA21 domain exemptions -See Appendix A of the Oregon Accessibility Manual for a summary list of embedded accessibility supports, value options, and user roles -See TIDE User Guide for detailed instruction on viewing, editing, and uploading accessibility supports in TIDE All users can view student settings Users can only update test settings if their role in TIDE permits All settings except ELPA21 domain exemptions can be mass uploaded using a template provided through TIDE

16 Changes for the 2015-16 School Year
Student Interface Changes for the School Year Having briefly considered the current updates and kinds of information that are called for when assigning student test settings, the remaining slides review some of the current updates to the Student Interface.

17 Updated Skin and Item Tools Menu
Tools now available through menu icon rather than requiring right-click (see next slide for details) This slide reflects the updates to the skin and item tools menus (READ CAPTIONS) Navigation buttons now clear, allowing color contrast/overlay settings to apply

18 Item Tools Menu All tools now consolidated in a single location under an industry-standard menu button in the top right corner of the item. Turning on this feature also turns on strikethrough mode which enables a student to quickly and easily strike multiple options without having to right click on each and every one. In the past tools were accessible via the right-click context menu and/or the buttons on the top of the item. Younger students had a hard time with this because options were hidden from them unless they knew that right-click was available.

19 Scrubber for Embedded Audio
Enables a student to drag to the desired position in the audio for pre-recorded audio. (Note: This is not available for text-to-speech) There is now available a Scrubber for Embedded Audio (READ BULLET)

20 Text-to-Speech Settings
Allows the student to adjust the volume, rate (speed), and pitch for text-to-speech from inside the secure browser (Note: voice pack selection must still be done outside of the secure browser) The updated Text-to-speech settings now (READ BULLET)

21 Response Recovery Enables a student to recover a previous draft from the current test session. All drafts are ordered from most recent to oldest and grouped by sitting (each time the student logged in and tested) (Note: available as a universal tool but may be turned off from the TA Interface) The new Response Recovery feature (READ BULLETS)

22 Paginated Item Groups*
Single item display within item groups Students can navigate to individual items within an item group Checkmarks show which items the student has answered Enhanced security if pausing for 20+ minutes: If student pauses for more than 20 minutes without having answered all items in the item group, answered items will be “locked down” Students may still review but may not revise response to previously answered items in the item group * For all tests except Smarter Balanced Math PT With the Paginated Item Groups (READ SLDE)

23 Persisting Highlighting*
*Highlighting will persist between segments on PTs and between testing sessions. *Highlighting will only persist if a student tests on the same operating system and platform. Persisting Highlighting (READ ASTERISKS)
