4 Social, Emotional, Behavior Needs
GOAL:  By 2016, the Papillion La Vista Community Schools will research and make recommendations on programs and services that support students socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. Strategic Objective #1: To enhance social/emotional/behavioral support systems for staff coaching and student services Strategic Objective #2: Assess implementation of a social/emotional/behavioral core Strategic Objective #3: Provide social/emotional/behavioral interventions Strategic Objective #4: Research, assess and develop alternative educational programing and practices for at-risk secondary (7-12) youth

5 Goal Accomplishments Partnered with Project Harmony to provide “Connections.” Expanded behavioral coaching at all levels (+4 Coaches) Workload/Time/Need Analysis/Study & Strategic Allocation of Resources: School Psychologists Behavior Coaches Title I Resources Addition of two Title I Facilitators (La Vista West & G. Stanley Hall) All PLCS schools PBiS Accepted as of summer, 2017 Cooperation BEST – business partner provided PBiS incentives

Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) Project Harmony staff in school settings Bounce Back Support for Students Exposed to Trauma (SSET) District staff trained by Project Harmony to hold groups in the school setting

11 Classroom Support Teacher-Child Interaction Training (TCIT)
A modification of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) PCIT has proven success for children who have a history of trauma TCIT works to improve children’s ability to benefit from academic instruction and improve the teacher-child relationship Project Harmony/Connections funded for first year

12 Training Understanding and supporting students who have been exposed to trauma What are traumatic events? Why is an event traumatic to one person but not to another? How can we support students who have experienced trauma and have negative internalizing or externalizing behaviors? ACEs (Adverse Childhood Events)

13 Boys Town Metro Intervention Center
A safe place for students to attend in order to receive social skills instruction and support from Boys Town trained staff Students can attend for 1 day or several consecutive days Can be used for students in several ways: An alternate to suspension program As an intervention proactively placed in a student’s IEP/BIP As a location to serve a suspension instead of home

15 Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare
The mission is to organize and provide an effective and efficient system of quality behavioral health services. Responsible for the planning, developing, funding, monitoring and evaluating of behavioral health services. Includes mental health and substance abuse prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services provided by a network of providers, supported by federal, state and county dollars Suicide Awareness/Prevention Training for Trainers Trainers then presented program to staff
