1 CRANE RELIABILITY STUDY
ARE YOUR CRANES FIT FOR THE FUTURE?

2 UNDERSTANDING YOUR EQUIPMENT CONCERNS
How reliable is your equipment? Are your cranes capable of meeting growing production demands? What sort of plan do you have for the life of your cranes? (e.g., future production, safety standards) Do your total crane costs contribute to a positive ROI? Are you using your cranes as they were originally classified? Are there any safety issues with your current equipment? Is it time to modernize or replace aging crane assets? Crane Reliability Study 17/06/2018

4 CRANES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO LAST FOREVER
All cranes have a finite service life Machinery components receive increased cycles during each lift. Faults will grow faster Scheduled inspections are not frequent enough to predict fault to failure Important to determine design life of your crane components How much time does your crane have left? When should you replace? Repair? Modernize? COMPARISON OF CRACK PROPAGATION BETWEEN WELDED AND MACHINED PARTS WHAT THIS PICTURE TRIES TO TELL: Grey graph: Welded structures (girders, etc.) only recieve one bending and releasing of stresses during one work cycle – thus the cracks grow slowly and never recieve a critical size before they are detected. Red graph: Machined components (shafts, gears, etc.) recieve countless bends and releases during one work cycle – thus the time between detectable size crack and a failure is extremely short and inspection intervals can never be short enough to catch them. -> WE NEED CALCULATIONS TO ESTIMATE WHEN THE MACHINED COMPONENTS HAVE AN INCREASED RISK OF A FAILURE! -> INSPECTIONS ALONE ARE NOT ENOUGH!
