2 OVERVIEW This workshop will cover:
the structure and application of vocational training and the structures that support it.

3 ASSESSMENT Assessment for these units will be based on :
Your workshop participation and contribution The completion of the learning activities during the workshop Completion of a practical assessment tasks which will be fully explained by your facilitator Self Assessment Due 15 May 2009

4 TRAINING Vocational education and training (VET) can be
described as any form of activity and experience leading to understandings or skills relevant to work and that can be measured according to industry and work based standards.

5 WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW? The VET system is complex
Awareness of policies and frameworks Understanding of main organisations Knowledge of relationships between Commonwealth, State and Territory departments How the VET system impacts on you – the practitioner

6 ACTIVITY 1 Individually Record 5 minutes

7 PACKAGES Training Packages are developed by industry through National Industry Skills Councils or by enterprises to meet the identified training needs of specific industries or industry sectors. To gain national endorsement, developers must provide evidence of extensive consultation and support within the industry area or enterprise

Why do you think it is necessary to have national standards for RTO’s? What current practices of trainers are impacted by the standards?

9 MONITORING WORK It is important that you take responsibility for
your own tasks This includes monitoring your own work performance to ensure that your job is completed in an accurate and timely manner Look at the quality of the work you are doing and jobs you are completing

10 MANAGING WORK When planning your own work you need to:
set clear, realistic, achievable, stretch goals which map against the organisation's goals and against the needs of other sections/ divisions within the organisation break goals down into smaller, achievable and measurable tasks – objectives determine the resources and inputs required to achieve goals determine the most effective strategies set realistic time frames for achievement determine the necessary quality standards and measures of performance self-monitor and self-evaluate your work to ensure that it meets quality and time requirements

11 FEEDBACK Feedback is the process of gathering information to determine whether your performance is meeting the expectations of others

12 ACTIVITY 7 Who has received feedback at work? What was the process? What was the outcome? Did you feel positive or negative about the process? How could you obtain feedback from your customers / clients ? Feedback Definitions

13 They plan to meet customer needs and
CUSTOMERS Successful organisations are customer focused They plan to meet customer needs and expectations What this means is that they take the time and make the effort to know who their customers are and what they want

14 COMMUNICATING WITH CUSTOMERS
How do you find out what your customers want? Communicate with them Give them information about your organisation and about the product/ service you supply Ask them what they want Get feedback from them

15 RELATIONSHIPS An organisation that has a culture of collaboration
and cooperation can encourage easily achieved work outcomes and goals Working collaboratively (ie working together) with different groups, identifying and catering for the needs of others can also assist in building positive relationships

19 METHODS OF CONTROL Three basic methods of control are:
Feedback – post event Feedforward – preventative or preliminary Concurrent – continuous screening.
