1 “The Hollow Men” (part1& 2)
By T.S. Eliot To:……………………………………. Prepared by: Mr. Salman Taki

2 Who is T.S. Eliot ? Thomas Stearns Eliot(September 26, 1888 – January 4, 1965) was a playwright, literary critic, and an important English-language poet of the 20th century. "It wouldn't be what it is, and I imagine it wouldn't be so good ... if I'd been born in England, and it wouldn't be what it is if I'd stayed in America. It's a combination of things. But in its sources, in its emotional springs, it comes from America."

3 We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men

4 Head piece filled with straw. Alas!
Leaning Together Head piece filled with straw. Alas!

5 > ____ Are quiet and meaningless
Our dried voices, when We whisper together ____ >

6 As wind in dry grass-Or rats’ feet over broken glass-In our dry cellar

7 Shape without form, Shade without colour,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion;

8 With direct eyes, to death’s other kingdom
Those who have crossed With direct eyes, to death’s other kingdom

9 Remember us, if at all, not as lost

10 Violent souls, but only As the hollow men The stuffed men

11 Eyes I dare not meet in dreams in death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear

12 There, The eyes are sunlight on a broken column

13 And voices are In the wind’s
There, is a tree Swinging Singing

14 More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star

15 Let me be no nearer In death’s dream kingdom Let me also wear such deliberate disguises

16 In a field behaving as the wind behaves No nearer-
Rat’s coat, crow skin, crossed staves

17 Not that final meeting In the twilight kingdom
