2 Solution Brief We are proposing 3750 switch with 24 Gigabit ports with standard image installed supporting static and basic dynamic protocols like RIP v1 and RIP v2, IGRP etc. All the existing Layer 2 switches would connect to 3750 in a star topology. VLANS would be created on location basis. For example users in sixth floor would be assigned a separate VLAN. Similarly users in seventh floor would be assigned different VLAN. The exception of the above point would be wireless VLAN which we plan to create separately. As the wireless AP’s are connected to different layer 2 switches in each floor, the ports on which the wireless AP’s are connected would be assigned to wireless VLAN. The layer 2 access switches would connect to layer switch via trunk ports. The default gateway to be given in the end devices would be the IP addresses that would be assigned in the particular vlan interface to which the devices belong. All the intervlan routing would be done at the layer 3 switch backplane. DHCP requests for IP address would be forwarded to DHCP servers using ip helper-address command in the vlan interface configuration. A total number of 8 VLAN’s would be required considering seven different locations and one VLAN for wireless. Similarly we would be required to divide the existing /22 network into 9 subnets, keeping in view the number of VLAN’s and one separate subnet between router and Layer 3 switch.. Sufficient consideration would be also required to be given to the number of hosts that would exist in each VLAN. As the IP subnets of each VLAN would be different, sufficient changes would be required to be done in ACS to accommodate change of IP addresses in Access Points.
