4 Breaking Down Component 4
Component 4 is universal across content areas and requires candidates to analyze their teaching in the following ways: Knowledge of Students Generation and Use of Assessment Data Participation in Learning Communities

Take out the Breaking Down Component 4 form Complete the form individually first for 20 minutes, paying close attention to the level 4 rubric We will then compare with colleagues

6 Formative and Summative Assessments
Discussion of what’s the difference? Could an assessment be either (depending on how you use it)? Good info here: summative.html head-comparison.html Planning for a future unit, links btwn knowledge of students, unit and objectives, purposes of assessments, choices of assessments, analyzing data from assessments, so what based on that data

7 Looking at homework for today
Share selected units and assessment ideas at tables Making good choices: brainstorm and get feedback at tables, and large group How to include student self-assessment with EITHER form OR summ

8 Working Lunch!

9 Learner/Leader activity
Fill out a brainstorming chart where candidates list activities they’re involved in related to a student need/professional need Also make big picture connections between all aspects of this component (check out what reflection section of written commentary is asking candidates to think about)

10 Back to the Standards Just when you think this Component in done, there’s the Written Commentary! With your certificate area colleagues, Review the Standards for your certificate area that are assessed as part of Component 4. Which standards are included, which are not? Then, connect the standards to each specific prompt in the Written Commentary.

11 Looking Ahead: January DATE: Coaching sessions for Components 2 and 3
February DATE: Coaching session for Component 3; Peer coaching for Component 4 → Submit polished (or as close as possible) Component(s) that will be the basis for your coaching session. with specific directions to follow.
