originally known as the  Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic 

4 On November 23, 1908, "Patient number 1" was admitted to the hospital.

5 In 1968, conditions at Pennhurst were exposed
"Suffer the Little Children" images of naked, emaciated residents, swaying back and forth to their own internal rhythms, or curled up in balls. "Think of a ward the ages of six months to 5 years old," Baldini recalls. "There are 80 of them in ... metal cages. They had to attend to them every day, all day. These people were literally lying in their own feces for days."

7 In 1983, nine employees were indicted on charges ranging from slapping and beating patients
(including some in wheelchairs) to arranging for patients to assault each other

1987, 460 patients were discharged or transferred to other facilities

9 Ghost Stories…. Witness have seen partial and full bodied apparitions (including a woman in white and a young girl with blonde hair), doors slamming, screams, voices, banging, feeling of being watched, dragging sounds, piano playing, and items being thrown by unseen hands. Others have seen apparitions peering around corners and out windows, being pushed, whispers, and footsteps.

10 Voices…… Among the recordings of Ghost Hunters are the sounds of disembodies voices uttering things like  “go away”, “I’ll kill you”, “we’re upset”, and “why’d you come here?” An unknown male states, “I’m scared” while an invisible female asks, “why won’t you leave?”
