4 From Frankenstein (1931) Mary Shelly

5 a nineteen-year-old Englishwoman called Mary Shelley wrote a novel called Frankenstein .It told the story of a scientist who created a monster that resembled a huge human being .The novel immediately became very popular and it is generally agreed that it is one of the best science fiction stories ever written. Several films on it have been made. Boris Karloff played the monster in the 1931 film Frankenstein, as shown in the picture, on this page . For the film ,he is made to look very ugly, with wrinkled skin, yellow eyes and black lips. The monster is very big and very strong, and this makes him very frightening. He terrifies everyone who sees him. The 1931film is still the most famous of all horror films.

10 English novelist. Daughter of the British philosopher William Godwin and the British author and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, she was born in London, and privately educated. She met the young poet Percy Bysshe Shelley in May 1814, and two months later left England with him. When Shelley's first wife died in December 1816, he married Mary. In 1818 her first and most important work, the novel Frankenstein, was published. A remarkable accomplishment for a 20-year-old, the work was an immediate critical and popular success. 11 The main plot A young scientist named Frankenstein discovers the secret of how to creat life. He creats a creature and gives it life.But the creature is extremly urgly.Because he has no friends, the monster feels lonely and unhappy.When Frankenstein refuses to creat a wife for him, the monster kills his brother,best friend and his new wife.In order to destroy him, Frankenstein chases him to the Arctic, where they both die.
