5 Does this change your mind?
Friday May 1st Following a night out on the town, some radical protestors damaged vehicles and destroyed storefronts. Over 100 people present during the riots requiring the entire Kent police force to be dispatched The Mayor declared a state of emergency and requested the National Guard be sent to Kent to restore order.

6 How about this? Saturday May 2nd
Over 1000 protestors assemble around the burning ROTC building on campus, cheering its destruction. The fire was attributed to Arson, although the culprit was never discovered. While attempting to extinguish the flames, several firefighters are assaulted by rock throwing from the protestors.

7 Governor Rhodes of Ohio
We've seen here at the city of Kent especially, probably the most vicious form of campus oriented violence yet perpetrated by dissident groups. They make definite plans of burning, destroying, and throwing rocks at police, and at the National Guard and the Highway Patrol. This is when we're going to use every part of the law enforcement agency of Ohio to drive them out of Kent. We are going to eradicate the problem. We're not going to treat the symptoms. And these people just move from one campus to the other and terrorize the community. They're worse than the brown shirts and the communist element and also the night riders and the vigilantes"

8 Governor Rhodes of Ohio (cont.)
"They're the worst type of people that we harbor in America. Now I want to say this. They are not going to take over campus. I think that we're up against the strongest, well-trained, militant, revolutionary group that has ever assembled in America."

9 The Tragedy Allison Krause and Jeffrey Miller were involved in the protests. Sandra Scheur and William Schroeder were walking to lunch.

10 Jackson State Roughly 100 students are protesting in front of a dormitory. 40 members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol fire 140 rounds in 30 seconds citing “sniper presence” 2 Students are killed and 11 others injured
