4 March 2015 : Outcomes of the Cost and Schedule review
Findings The goal for the PSB upgrade is to produce higher brightness beams to match the HL-LHC requirements. This will also allow higher beam intensities for non-LHC beams. The LIU-PSB contains two parts: connection of the PSB with LINAC4 and 2 GeV energy upgrade of the PSB of the extraction energy. The cost of PSB is reasonable, since all the elements are standard or similar to existing equipment. Power converters are the biggest fraction of the budget of PSB. Comments The cost estimates are largely based on existing equipment and are well founded It is difficult to reduce cost through scope reduction. The beam instrumentation considered for scope reduction is essential for efficient commissioning after LINAC4 connection and PSB 2 GeV upgrade. High schedule risk due to a 5 month overload for installation during LS2. Removal of unused old cables at the PSB is a high priority and needs to be started as soon as possible. Recommendations Schedule removal of old cables at the PSB as soon as possible Start installation of equipment for the PSB upgrade as soon as possible to alleviate the schedule problem during LS2 17-19 October 2016 LIU / HL-LHC Cost and Schedule Review LIU-PSB : Klaus Hanke - BE/OP

23 Injection Review September 2016
The Linac4-PSB connection readiness was reviewed in September 2016 in order to derive a comprehensive, detailed plan and list the associated risks. This could happen in case of a major LHC break-down which would open a time window long enough to do this Conclusions: all Linac4-PSB equipment is ready for a connection as from spring 2017 critical items are no show stoppers connection could be done in (6 +3) months Half Sector Test is extremely important, as well as the Linac4 reliability Run, which is endorsed 17-19 October 2016 LIU / HL-LHC Cost and Schedule Review LIU-PSB : Klaus Hanke - BE/OP
