5 SUCCESSES and CHALLENGES?

6 Teacher in Residence Program Overview
The Teacher in Residence Program is an alternative pathway toward obtaining a teaching license. Candidates are seeking district recommendation for their initial teacher license over a two year period. REBEKHA - double check me please - it is a provisional license - correct?

7 How are we similar to a traditional program?
All Colorado teachers must demonstrate evidence of proficiency toward the eight Performance Based Standards for Colorado Teachers. All institutions require a TWS, or a unit plan design, to provide documentation of proficiency toward many of the required standards. TiR provides knowledge and the pedagogy of teaching.

8 How are we different from a traditional program?
Candidates Must: Complete a compacted curriculum in two years. Demonstrate proficiency in coursework AND in the classroom. Integrate course work into their classroom practices including management and planning.

9 Year One Goal Candidates will provide evidence of proficiency for at least 45 standard elements from the Performance Based Standards for Colorado Teachers. Candidates must receive a passing grade for TiR coursework. Opportunities for proficiency demonstration: Artifacts Classroom Performance Teacher Work Samples

10 Year Two Goal > Candidates will continue to work towards completion of their licensure portfolio by gathering evidence of proficiency for the remaining elements defined in the Performance Based Standards for Colorado Teachers. The DISTRICT will then recommend the TiR candidate receive their initial teaching license.

11 What We Know About You! You are a men*tor n.1. A wise and trusted counselor or teacher. You have a passion and desire to move our profession and good teaching forward by selecting to mentor a new professional! You are willing to share yourself, your knowledge, wisdom and experiences with another teacher! That is something special and should be celebrated!

12 Role Of The Mentor “Learning occurs when people engage in complicated undertakings and find a way to reflect on how they’re doing it - and perhaps engage a coach or mentor who has some tools and methods for learning. Those tools are different from answers. Answers are for lazy people who don’t want to learn how to use a thinking method to learn how to deal with a practical problem. I have zero respect for trying to find an ‘answer.’ There is a profound difference between having an answer and having an approach you can use to deal with a complicated and difficult practical problem.” Peter Senge
