Chris: I am a great dancer, basketball player, football player, and baseball player. I love life and want to be successful in life also.

8. Tylertown, Mississippi
Ruby Bridges was born in small town called Tylertown, Mississippi. Tylertown was first know as the Magee settlement.

9. She is Born
Ruby Bridges was born on September 8,1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi. She grew up on a farm that was shared between her parents and her grandparents. At the age of four, her parents wanted her to have a better life as a young girl. So they moved to a bigger city, New Orleans.

10. Attending School
Ruby Bridges was only 6 years old when she attended William Frantz school for Whites in the 1960s.

11. William Frantz Elementary
Ruby Bridges attended William Frantz school for Whites in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ruby’s mom wanted Ruby to have a good education, so she let Ruby go to the all white school.

12. Federal Marshals
Federal Marshals protected Ruby from screaming, cursing White Men and Women. They were also throwing things and shouting mean things.

13. The Painting
This is a painting of Ruby going to school painted by Norman Rockwell. This painting shows Ruby going to school with the Federal Marshals walking with her to school .

14. “No” to integrate
White parents protested, because they did not want to integrate the school. The parents went inside the school and took their children out . When Ruby entered the school, the parents did not want to integrate so that’s why they took their children out of the school building.

15. Could not eat or sleep
School was not easy for Ruby. It was hard for her to eat and sleep at night . She would have nightmares and go to her mom for comfort. Her mom would tell her to pray. She wouldn’t eat in the cafeteria, because she was afraid to sit with the Whites. So Ruby had lunch with her teacher Mrs. Henry, a white teacher that taught her.

16. Threatens
A women threaten to poison Ruby. Also, a women displayed a black doll in a wooden coffin. Ruby experienced screaming and crowds throwing things and cursing at her.

17. Family
Ruby's family struggled, because her father , Abon lost his job. Ruby's grandparents lost place of tenant farmers and her family was threaten.

18. The Negativity
Ruby had to face all the rude, cruel, negativity that the white people were giving in the crowd. At the time, Ruby thought it was something like Mardi Gras. Ruby was very young, and she didn’t know what was going on at the time.

19. Big crowds and police everywhere
Big crowds and police were everywhere, it was crazy for Ruby to go to school. Seeing large crowds everyday, hearing the same threats everyday, seeing the police there everyday, and being escorted to school by the Federal Marshals is to much for an average adult, let alone a child.

20. Brave Girl
Ruby Bridges was a brave girl, because she was able go through all of the adversity and threats everyday.

Charles Burks said ”,She never cried, she didn’t whimper, she just marched along like a solider, and were all proud of her.”

“Through my Eyes” was written by Ruby Bridges. It’s about Ruby and her life though a journey that was difficult and rough, but her bravery and courage made Ruby stand tall and not let no one bring her down.

Ruby made some White friends at her new school. It was hard for Ruby, but she lived, learned and she made life better for herself.

When Ruby started growing up, she began to realize that when she was little, she didn’t know what was going on and didn’t understand what it meant.

Ruby was honored by the US Marshals for her bravery as a child. They named a elementary school after her.

This is Ruby and her teacher Mrs. Henry. Barbra Henry was the only teacher that accepted Ruby to teach.

Ruby Bridges is an author. She writes books about her life and her experiences as a child. Ruby wrote books like “Through my Eyes” and “Ruby Goes to School”.

Ruby and her husband Malcolm Hall have four sons. Ruby and her husband live in New Orleans, Louisiana.

President Barack Obama and Ruby Bridges were in the White house discussing Ruby's painting by Norman Rockwell. Obama in this picture looks interested in the detailed painting of Ruby.
