1 Wednesday, February 15, 2017 Turn in p. 401 questions
Get out your lymphatic worksheet 3rd period – also get out lymphatic diagrams

2 Let’s go over it… c = spleen a = lymph nodes d = thymus b & E = Peyer’s Patches & Tonsils b = Peyer’s Patches

3

4

5 On the Lymphatic System worksheet…
for each specific type of defense tell if it is a structure, cell, or process

6 Lymphatic System Worksheet What is it? How does it work?
Innate Defenses Surface Membrane Barriers Internal Defenses Phagocytes Natural Killer Cells Inflammatory Response Antimicrobial Proteins Fever Adaptive defenses Lymphocytes Macrophages Humoral (Antibody-Mediated) Immune Response Cellular (Cell-Mediated) Immune Response

7 Antigen Any substance – including toxins, foreign proteins, or bacteria – that, when introduced to the body is recognized as foreign and activates the immune system

8 Antibody A specialized substance produced by the body that can provide immunity against a specific antigen

9 Vaccine A substance that includes antigens that stimulate an immune response against a particular pathogen

10 Additional vaccine info
Also known as artificially acquired immunity How it works: dead or weakened (attenuated) pathogen introduced into body body builds up antibodies against that specific pathogen’s antigens (remember those are like protein name tags on cells) antibodies act as ready-defense in case you come into contact w/ that pathogen again

11 Benefits of vaccines may eliminate or lessen the signs & symptoms of that particular disease weakened antigens can still stimulate antibody production & immunological memory

12 Overzealous immune response to an otherwise harmless antigen
Allergy Overzealous immune response to an otherwise harmless antigen A.k.a. hypersensitivity

13 Inflammation Response (add this to your lymphatic worksheet)
nonspecific response triggered when body tissues are injured 4 parts redness heat swelling pain

14 get out your paper & something to write with
Put all phones away get out your paper & something to write with

15 Blood, CVS & Lymphatic Test tomorrow
40 questions; 38 Multiple Choice & 2 essay Heart structure diagrams components & characteristics of blood hemostasis blood groups structure of the heart

16 names & locations of valves
intrinsic conduction system (from CVS notes) path of blood flow (order of types of blood vessels & through heart) pulmonary vs. systemic circulation Lymphatic organs (diagrams & questions from coloring sheet) Lymphatic worksheet info
