6 Social groupings depend on animal signals – they remain together and do things together by influencing one another. Some animals may be grouped, but do not exhibit social behavior: Moths – attracted to light (use moon for navigation) Barnacles – attach to a pier or rock substrate Trout – gather in a cool pool of water

Ex. Musk oxen circle, gull colonies, prairie dog towns Reproduction – easier to find opposite sex and synchronize reproduction behaviors Parental Care – help from kin; Altruistic behavior

More food for yourself Limited resources – depends on ecological conditions
