3. ALPiBa’s Reestructuration
Having different local batteries association
Activities and expenses were duplicated with local associations
No representatives in countries without associations (Central America, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela)
Lawyers were taking responsibility.
ALPiBa to absorb AMEXPILAS (Mexico) and CIPIBA (Argentina).
South America Coordinator was based in Argentina to take direct control of lobbying activities and to implement regional strategies.
More effective communication with regional and local companies representatives
Savings about 50% in the total annual budget.

4. To be Considered
Lack of knowledge of Authorities on environmental and batteries issues.
Authorities changes constantly.
Few Local Human resources in companies with knowledge about environment and batteries.
Extended Producer Responsibility has been established in many countries by local laws
No real solution for recycling in Latin America has been developed, lack of investment due to no clarity on regulations.

5. To be Considered
No possibility to standardized regulation and certifications in the region
We are seeing a lot of recyclers from Europe trying to influence recycling in Latin America
long term goal is 1 association across all Latin America.  This would absorb Brazil and Colombia in  ALPiBa
Takeback & Recycling is not a Sustainability issue, it became a Political issue.
