1 THE KIND OF FAITH THAT SAVES
It’s More Than A Feeling!

2 Saving Faith Has A Distinct Definition
Thayer: “Trust conjoined with obedience. Romans 16:25-26 – “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past, but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made know to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith….”

3 It is a faith that works…
James 2:14 – “What good is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he had no works? Can that faith save him? Faith is more than “spiritual feelings”. It is intentional activity.

4 It will confess Jesus… It is a faith that will confess Jesus as Lord and Christ Romans 10: … that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

5 It obeys the Lord… Matthew 7:21 – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” Luke 6:46 – “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

6 It has a distinct object…
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” Only faith in Jesus the Only Begotten results in eternal life.

7 It demands propitiation for sins…
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith….”

8 It recognizes our own helplessness…
GAL.2:15-16 – “…nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.” We are not good enough on our own to be saved.

9 It is coupled with righteous behavior…
Hebrews 11 – Abel OFFERED to God… Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death… Noah prepared the ark… Abraham obeyed and went out Abraham offered up Isaac… Moses refused Egypt, kept the Passover, went through the Red Sea….

10 It is an examination… 2 Corinthians 13:5 -- Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test? How do we test our faith? Only by comparison to the word of God.

11 It is a new life! Galatians 2:20 -- I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
