1 Jer 31:31-34 The New Covenant

2 INTRODUCTION Do you know that you are in a covenant?
Do you know the terms of covenant and who the stakeholders are? Do you know what obligations the stakeholders have?

3 Matt 26:26-28 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat, this is My body. (27) And He took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink all of it. (28) For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

4 The Old Covenant: The Abrahamic Covenant (Gen 17:3-9 )
God delivered His people and His promise Moses sealed the covenant at Sinai (Exo 24:3-8)

5 I will be their God, and they shall be My people
Jer 11:4 which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey My voice and do them according to all that I command you; so you shall be My people, and I will be your God;

6 Establishing a New Covenant (1)
Jer 31: Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will cut a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah, (32) not according to the covenant that I cut with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which covenant of Mine they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Jehovah; (33) but this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the house of Israel:

7 Establishing a New Covenant (2)
After those days, says Jehovah, I will put My Law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (34) And they shall no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says Jehovah. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more.

8 I will establish a new covenant!
God takes the initiative It is in God’s time and with plan

9 The same purpose! I will be their God, and they shall be My people
God’s grace God’s faithfulness

10 No more “hand holding” Not according to the covenant
The new covenant will be different Seems to demand a higher accountability. Not by nor distracted by works By Faith alone

11 To the “heart of the problem” (2)
Law placed in the heart It is about obedience to God from the heart, or in truth and in spirit. In truth – what is right, honesty In spirit – sincerity, not hypocrisy

12 To the “heart of the problem” (2)
The Laws written by God with the Holy Spirit, onto the tablet or our hearts 2Co 3:3c … not having been written with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not on tablets of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart.

13 What the New Covenant Shows
God’s Saving plans A masterpiece by God, in Sprit, with the Son Jesus Christ God’s forgiveness: “For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more.”

14 CONCLUSION “I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
God is graceful, merciful, forgiving and loving A covenant ratified with the blood of Jesus Reflect on the new covenant when you drink of the cup today
