Mathematics
Grades 3-8 MCA-III
Grades 6 (+5.4), 7 (+3.5) and 8 (+15.5) are above the state average.
Grade 11 MCA-III
Grade 11 was above the state average by +1.1
Overall MPS Math MCA-III scores were below the state average by -1.3
In the MCA III Math proficiency tests, MPS saw a -1.2 decrease in Math MCA-III scores.
If we look at MCA III data students enrolled by Oct 1, MPS is above the state average by +.7

Reading
Grades 6 (+1.1) and 8 (+2.5) are above the state average
Overall MPS Reading scores are below the state average by -3.9
In the MCA III Reading proficiency tests, MPS saw a -2.7 decrease in Reading MCA-III scores.
If we look at MCA III data students enrolled by Oct 1, MPS is below the state average by -2.6

13. Other Items of Interest
The cohort of students graduating in 2023 (in 5th grade last year) were at 56.8% proficient in math in 2015; this year, they were at 61.3% proficient. That’s a 4.5% increase.
The cohort of students graduating in 2022 (in 6th grade last year) were at 52.5% proficient in math in 2015; this year, they were at 59.7% proficient. That’s a 7.2% increase.
The cohort of students graduating in 2021 (in 7th grade last year) were at 58.1% proficient in math in 2015; this year, they were at 73.5% proficient. That’s a 15.4% increase.
The cohort of students graduating in 2024 (in 4th grade last year) were at 55% proficient in reading in 2015; this year, they were at 66% proficient. That’s a 11% increase.
The cohort of students graduating in 2021 (in 7th grade last year) were at 56.3% proficient in reading in 2015; this year, they were at 59.5% proficient. That’s a 3.2% increase.

Our Hispanic subgroup increased proficiency in Math by +7.1 from 2015
Our EL subgroup increased proficiency in Math by +3.7 from 2015
Our Black subgroup increased proficiency in Math by +.4 from 2015
Our FRP subgroup increased proficiency in Math by +.1 from 2015

Our Black subgroup increased proficiency in Reading by +6.4 from 2015

23. Achievement Gap Things We Are Doing:
Added additional EL staff during the school year. We are currently at FTE EL teachers.
Added a .5 EL Coordinator for the school year.
Offered 3 cohort trainings on Sheltered Instructional Observation Protocol (SIOP) during the school year.
Plan to continue to offer additional SIOP trainings during the school year.
Doing more parent out each with our EL families.
Added 2.0 FTE Parent/Student Connectors.
Increased SPED staff to help lower case loads.

24. Response & Direction
Best Practices: Many things are going well. We need to improve on identifying what is working well and then share that information with other grade levels and/or same-grade teachers.
Curriculum: We need to ensure that teachers are familiar with state standards and benchmarks and verify that curricular materials selected and used adequately cover those.
Data: We need to continue to evaluate data and provide quality, relevant, and timely professional development (relative to what the data shows) for our staff.
Evaluation: We need to evaluate existing programs and their effectiveness – specifically, interventions provided for struggling learners.

25. Response & Direction
Professional Development: We need to determine what effective tools, strategies, and professional development are available and provide those to our staff so they can work better with our changing demographics and student population.
Professional Learning Communities: It is critical that our PLC’s are effective – to work with colleagues to understand what a standard means, discuss strategies to help identify what works in classrooms, and use data to make instructional decisions.
Standards Based Learning: The need for “re-teaching” when students do not understand a particular concept is incorporated into Standards Based Learning, which is likely to help improve student achievement.
