Welcome! LAUSD DI/BTSA INDUCTION Orientation Slide 1: Welcome (Slides 1-2 = 2 minutes) Welcome to the orientation session for Year II BTSA Induction Program Participants. I am Peggy Taylor Presley and I serve as the Director for the LAUSD BTSA Induction Program. I’m joined by members of the LAUSD Induction team who will be working with you today. I’d like to take a few moments to introduce members of our team.

2 Expected Outcomes BTSA Program participants will review those components needed to complete the program in order to receive a recommendation for a clear credential. BTSA Program participants will review key elements of the formative assessment system as they relate to their professional practice (FACT). Slide 4: Expected Outcomes (Slides 4-8 = 5 minutes) The “why” of today’s session are shared on our next two slides. We want you to be able to: Review components related to program completion Review key elements of the formative assessment system which aligns with your program design

BTSA Induction participants will link aspects of the Essential Components of Instruction with the Quality of Teaching and Learning Rubric for effective instruction. BTSA Induction participants will identify key calendar dates and timelines essential to completion of the program by June 30, 2011. 4 Guiding Questions How might I use the information that I am learning today to inform my practice and increase my effectiveness in the classroom? What calendar dates and program components are critical to my completion of the program and who do I contact if I have questions? How do the characteristics of my students influence the structure of my classroom, learning environment and instructional planning? Slide 6: Guiding Questions (Slides 4-8 = 5 minutes) Our guiding questions have been crafted to assist you in identifying how today’s session and BTSA Induction components align to assist you in growing as a professional educator. Which of these questions represents a priority for you?

5 BTSA Eligibility Criteria
You must hold a California Preliminary Teaching Credential You must be a teacher of record (have a classroom) within LAUSD or a Charter school within the LAUSD boundaries that has an agreement with us If you have received a Reduction in Force (RIF) notice, but have fortunately been re-assigned in a full time teaching position or have a long-term substitute assignment of at least one semester Slide 7: BTSA Eligibility Criteria (Slides 4-8 = 5 minutes) Individuals who are here today must meet two of the three eligibity criteria which appear on the screen. If you have a question regarding your eligibilty-pease see a member of our Induction team to seek clarification of your status. Our team members will be found at the rear of the room.

However, you must make a commitment to be an active participant in your learning. Remember, the state of California has set the renewal requirements for teachers. Don’t lose sight of your role and responsibilities.

The five dimensions relate to dimensions which must be in evidence for students to learn. As our district adopts the Quality of Teaching and Learning, you will see that these are familiar elements. What is new, is our adoption of a common language and vision for the act of teaching. We recognize that with effective teaching comes student learning and achievement. You will be introduced to these dimensions during today’s breakout session.

18 Year 2 FACT Context for Teaching/Assessment of Teaching Practice—Update Inquiry 2 Inquiry 3 WAIVED!!!!! Summary of Teaching Practice Slide 20: Year 2 FACT (Slides = 4 minutes) This slide shows the Formative Assessment components for Year II participants who are using the Formative Assessment for California Teachers. Additional attention will be given to your work in this area during the breakout session. Please note that we have waived the requirement for a 3rd Inquiry. This should allow for a sufficient amount of time to complete the revised requirements.

19 Support Providers Your Support Provider is there to assist and guide your completion of your induction process For the academic year there may be a delay in assignment of your Support Provider as a new system is in place Sign up on the Learning Zone for the FACT Work Time sessions in your Local District Slide 21: Support Providers (Slides = 4 minutes) Your support provider remains your lifeline in BTSA. We are implementing an updated selection process so that you may receive the highest level of support that we can provide for you. FACT Work Time Sessions will be available to you in the interim period of receiving an assigned support Provider. Please go t the Learning Zone to sign up for your Local District sessions.

We sincerely suggest that you attempt to stay focused and on schedule. It will help you to reach your goal. * In addition to anything not completed in Year 1
