18. Bildmuseet - one of the most beautiful university museums
The museum exhibits contemporary international art, photography, architecture and design, including art historical retrospectives.
The exhibitions are complemented by guided tours, lectures, seminars, films and performances. Workshops and educational activities are designed to inspire creativity and participation in the arts. Bildmuseet was one of three European institutions shortlisted for the Council of Europe Museum Prize 2013.
Since 2012, Bildmuseet has been housed in an acclaimed building on the banks of the Ume River. The new museum building, designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with White, was nominated for the European Mies van der Rohe Award 2013 and has been acknowledged as one of the world’s most beautiful university museums.
