1 Communication Systems
Unit 3 Lesson 2 Communication Systems

2 An open-loop system is a control system that does not have a feedback loop and thus is not self-correcting. open-loop system

3 An example would be a mobile phone
An example would be a mobile phone. The loop begins when the phone rings or when a person dials out. After the phone turns on it makes a connection with the satellite. The phone will then continue to transmit with that satellite until disconnected by human operation. Because the phone is unable to turn itself off after the necessary functions have been performed, it is an open loop. Example

4 A closed-loop system is a control system with an active feedback loop.

5 An example would be a thermostat/air conditioner
An example would be a thermostat/air conditioner. Human operation is required to set the temperature. After that, if the temperature rises above the setting the thermostat will turn on blowing cold air. Once the temperature reaches the set temperature, the thermostat shuts off. Example of Closed Loop

6 Inputs Inputs consists of: People Materials Tools and/or machines
Energy Information Capital Time Inputs

7 The process is the systematic sequence of actions that combines resources to produce an output.

8 The output is the end result, which can have either a positive or negative impact.

9 Feedback is information used to monitor or control a system
Feedback is information used to monitor or control a system. The feedback loop allows the system to make necessary adjustments during operation. Feedback

10 discuss how feedback can affect the stability of a system.
Stability of a technological system is influenced by all of the components in the system. Feedback vs. Stability
