The Safeguarding Priorities for the Local Authority

2 Things we do well Maintain and analyse robust data that we use to inform risk assessment, planning and safeguarding activity, eg identify trends and address issues quickly Work with partners to get good outcomes for people and families

3 Things we do well We can demonstrate we have been able to intervene to protect those without capacity e.g. have been successful at the court of protection in securing decisions that support our safeguarding practice

4 Things we do well We have developed the Vulnerable Adult Risk Matrix (VARM) which is helping to manage the risks around those with capacity who may make unwise decisions which leave them vulnerable to abuse or harm

5 Things we need to do next?
Safeguarding Adults Team Welcome new team leader Rita Gavin Delange & recruit a 2nd senior AO Developing and introduce thresholds for safeguarding alerts

6 Things we need to do next?
Review current activity and increase the focus on community based safeguarding Align data collection with SAB performance information/dashboard

7 Things we need to do next?
Embed safeguarding and the Dignity agenda in commissioning practice by: Ensuring that they are at the heart of contracts and contract monitoring

Develop a reviewing framework that measures and monitors key safeguarding indicators Clearly communicate our expectations to other agencies, users of services and providers in terms of both Safeguarding and Dignity

9 Things we need to do next?
Coordinate the multiagency response to Winterbourne by: Keeping the Project Board updated about work done and emerging issues Leading and coordinating the work of the steering group

10 Things we need to do next?
Ensuring all agencies are clear about their responsibilities and the timelines for delivering outcomes Pam Mellor has been appointed to act as the lead officer for this work

11 Finally The key message from today is to remember that Safeguarding is everyone’s business
