Reduced rates of uninsured Marylanders
Maryland’s uninsured rate is now about 6%, half of what it was for many years prior to 2010, when it remained around 14%.
Maryland was 3rd best in the nation in percentage of new enrollees at 40% (new) of the total number of enrollees.
In 2017, Maryland was 5th best in the nation for young adult enrollments (ages 18-34), up from 9th in In fact, 30% of all enrollees in the state were young adults.

High enrollment among key populations
Sizable gains have been made for populations that lacked coverage at disproportionately high rates including young adults, African Americans and Hispanic households.
African American and Hispanic enrollments were 18% and 12% respectively of total enrollments.
Biggest improvement in the insured households since 2010 has come in rural counties on the Eastern Shore and Western Maryland as well as Baltimore city, with gains of 7 or 8% more insured in those areas.

1.1 million Marylanders are now insured through Maryland Health Connection, including most of the state’s Medicaid enrollments.
That’s about 1 of every 6 Marylanders covered.
Over 500,000 individuals were able to get coverage under Medicaid expansion, as of June 2017.

It’s the only place to get financial help with coverage costs, for those who qualify. In fact, 9 out of 10 Marylanders who enrolled through Maryland Health Connection last year received financial help.

Maryland Health Connection also offers “stand-alone” dental plans, meaning you can buy a dental plan even if you don’t get a health plan.
All health plans are required to offer pediatric dental, so your children are covered.

9 out of 10 Marylanders who enrolled last year received financial help.
A single person earning up to $47,080 a year and a family of four earning up to $97,000 a year may qualify for financial help.

Marylanders who are eligible for tax credits will be cushioned against insurance rate increases. In some rural areas, people will pay much less than last year.
Open Enrollment starts Nov. 1 – Dec. 15.
All plans start on Jan. 1, 2018.
Medicaid enrollment is year-round.
