1 Bell Work

2 Objectives Rigor: Use Pythagorean to solve real world applications; write answers in simplest radical form Relevance: calculate lengths and distances of triangular objects and paths.

3 Notes: Simplest Radical Form
Complete a couple of examples on the worksheet together, the rest will be an assignment

4 Turn to page 223 in the core book and complete examples 1 & 2.
Put answers in simplest radical form before rounding!

5 Pythagorean Theorem Algebraic Proof

6 Example 1: Using the Pythagorean Theorem
Find the value of x. Give your answer in simplest radical form.

7 Example 2: Crafts Application
Randy is building a rectangular picture frame. He wants the ratio of the length to the width to be 3:1 and the diagonal to be 12 centimeters. How wide should the frame be? Round to the nearest tenth of a centimeter.

8 A set of three nonzero whole numbers a, b, and c such that a2 + b2 = c2 is called a Pythagorean triple.

9 Example 3: Identifying Pythagorean Triples
Find the missing side length. Tell if the side lengths form a Pythagorean triple. Explain.

10 5-7 Assignments (separate grades)
Simplifying radicals worksheet Both sides Must show factoring work to get credit Core book pgs 225 – 226 Pg 225 #1 – 4, 7, 8 Pg 226 ALL Both assignments will be collected on Thurs (per 1, 3, 5) & Fri (per 2, 4, 7)
