1 What is A Communist Party?
SRG

2 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist party
A party that is completely independent of the interests, ideology, pressures and threats of capitalism The independence of the party and the class is component part of the identity of a communist party It affirms itself in its own action, its own objectives, its own ideology A departure with these essential characteristics is in no way a demonstration of independence but, on the contrary, a renunciation of independence

3 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist party
A party of the working class, of workers in general, of the exploited and oppressed According to the social structure of each country's society, the social composition of the party members and its support base can be quite diverse In any case, it is essential that the party not be closed onto itself, not be faced inward, but faced outward, towards society, which means that it has close ties to the working class and the working masses

4 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party of the working class, of workers in general, of the exploited and oppressed (cont.) Disregarding this characteristic and losing the class nature of the party has led to a decline in some parties and, in some cases, to their self-destruction and disappearance The replacement of the class nature of the party by the conception of a "party of citizens" veils the existence of exploiting and exploited citizens and leads the party towards a neutral position in the class struggle - which in practice disarms the party and the exploited classes and turns the party into an instrument of the politics of the dominant exploiter class

5 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party with an internal democracy and a single central leadership. An internal democracy is particularly rich in virtues, namely: collective work, collective leadership, congresses, assemblies, debates throughout the party on fundamental issues of political orientation and action, decentralization of responsibilities and elections of the central leadership and leadership of all organizations The application of these principles has to correspond to the political and historic situation the party is facing. Under conditions of illegality and repression, democracy is limited by the imperative of defense. In bourgeois democracy, the referred to virtues can be and should be vastly and deeply applied

6 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party that is simultaneously internationalist and defender of the interests of its country Contrary to what was in time defended in the communist movement, there is no contradiction in these two elements of direction and action of communist parties Each party is in solidarity with the parties, workers and peoples of other countries But, with conviction, is a defender of the interests and rights of its own people and country One can include as values within the internationalist position the struggle within a country and as values in the domestic struggle the relations of solidarity with workers and peoples of other countries

7 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party that defines as its objective the construction of a society without exploiters or exploited, a socialist society But the positive and negative experiences in the construction of socialism in a series of countries and the deep changes in the global situation demand a critical analysis of the past and a redefinition of the socialist society as the objective of communist parties. Nevertheless, we must remember that socialism is not a final stage but a process of elimination of wage slavery. The final stage of this process is called Communism – a moderately prosperous classless society, with no State apparatus, a society with the motto “from each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs”.

8 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party with a revolutionary theory, Marxism-Leninism, that makes it possible to not only explain the world but also point the way towards its transformation Denying all the slanderous anticommunist campaigns, Marxism- Leninism is a lively, antidogmatic, dialectical, and creative theory that is enriched with practice and with the responses it is called to give in the face of new situations and phenomena It energizes practice, enriches itself and develops creatively with the lessons of practice

9 Six Fundamental Characteristics of a Communist Party
A party with a revolutionary theory, Marxism-Leninism, makes it possible to not only explain the world but also point the way towards its transformation (cont.) We owe Lenin and his work "Imperialism, highest stage of capitalism" the definition of capitalism in the end of the 19th Century These theoretical developments have extraordinary value. Likewise the research and systematization of theoretic al knowledge. In an extraordinarily rigorous and clear synthesis, a seminal text of Lenin's indicates "the three sources and three component parts of Marxism". In philosophy, dialectical materialism, and historic materialism in its application to society. In political economics, the analysis and explaining of capitalism and exploitation, whose corner-stone is the surplus-value theory. In socialist theory, the definition of a new society with the end of exploitation of workers by capitalists.

10 Why Is A Revolutionary Party Necessary for a Political Revolution?

11 Jacobin Magazine – Beyond Social Movement Unionism by Sam Gindin
“Campaigns and struggles are ephemeral. The momentum they generate can only be sustained through an ongoing, organized commitment — institutionalized in a party — to developing the ability of working people to act as a collective force. Only then will social movement unionism become not simply an aspirational alternative to business unionism, but a radical force capable of bringing about transformative change.”

12 Path to Socialism As Karl Marx and Frederick Engels wrote in the Communist Manifesto, “in the movement of the present, the Communists also represent and take care of the future of the movement.” The working class needs its own political party, dedicated to the interests of the whole class, dedicated to the long- term vision necessary for winning fundamental changes, dedicated not to an abstract ideal but to the people who make up the working class and their real struggles project strategy for the future, for socialism, more clearly and consistently than a coalition electoral party

13 Path to Socialism Victory relies not on slogans, gimmicks, or conspiracies, but on the understanding of millions won in hard struggles over real issues, an understanding that grows into full class and socialist consciousness Such consciousness cannot develop as a result of spontaneous struggle alone, but must be combined with explicitly Marxist- Leninist organization and education, tested and proved in struggle

14 Path to Socialism The Communist Party fights the abuses of the capitalist class by organizing at the grassroots and in broad coalitions for immediate needs. We expose the capitalist system as the root cause of poverty, racism, war, and human suffering and point the way to socialism as a fundamental solution We provide timely analysis of problems in mass movements in a way that illuminates the path to the deepest, widest unity for progress Our theory and analysis contribute to winning immediate reforms, and contribute to the creation of a new system based on people’s needs rather than private profit

15 Path to Socialism The role of the Communist Party is to guide the struggle of the working class to its ultimate aim of winning working class political power and socialism In the stages of struggle that lead to that ultimate aim, the Communist Party combines political, economic, organizational, and ideological struggle, the exact nature of which changes along with changes in the struggles and in the balance of power The role of the Party during each stage of struggle leading up to socialism is to combine participation with the millions in struggles where they are at, agitation for the next phase of struggle, and propaganda for socialism, linking activism in the struggles of the present with preparation for the struggles of the future
