What is a goal? In your own words, tell me what YOU THINK a goal is?

10 A goal is…. (Noun) the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; has aim; and a clear end.

11 Three different types of goals
The best way to get where you want to go is with a mix of short, medium, and long-term goals.

12 What is the difference between short, medium, and long-term goals…and what are the steps?

13 Begin with your long-term goals
Set your long-term goals first. What do you want to achieve in the next few years? These are broad goals that will take some time to achieve, like buying a home, graduating from college, or starting your own business. Your long-term goals are the foundation for goal setting as they define where you want to be in the future. Long-term goals should be obtainable within a set number of years. Try to give your goals a time frame, such as buying a home in five years or graduating from college with a PhD degree in eight.

14 Next, create your medium goals
Set your medium term goals next. Let these act as large stepping-stones to help you achieve your goals. For example, if your goal is to be a doctor, let a medium-term goal be to graduate from a four-year college and a create a plan to attend med-school. this needs to be a reasonable goal between where you stand now and the ultimate goal you hope to achieve. Medium term goals should also have specific time frames in mind. These will keep you moving forward, ensuring that you're always working toward your long-term goals and aspirations.

15 Finally, focus on your short-term goals
Set short-term goals. These are goals that you can achieve more easily and in a short period of time. Your short-term goals do not always have to be connected to your middle and/or your long-term goals. Some examples of some short-term goals could be: Getting all a’s this semester Take a trip this summer Join a sport of club at school

16 What are the steps for reaching any goal?
• It has to be important to you, personally. • It has to be within your power to make it happen through your own actions. • It has to be something you have a reasonable chance of achieving. • It must be clearly defined and have a specific plan of action.

17 Four Step Goal Setting Process
1.  Define the goal.* 2.  Outline the steps needed to achieve it. 3.  Consider possible blocks and ways of dealing with them. 4.  Set deadlines.
