3 Occupations and Careers Handbook for UAE Nationals
From a range of national activity indicators, twelve (12) industry sectors were identified. About 20,000 UAE nationals enter the job market every year (Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP). The Handbook acts as an important reference for employment opportunities in the key sectors. The sectors were derived from information related to such activities as economic, social context, employment, and population size as well as synergies in the mix of occupational and vocational skills.

In the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the private sector engages the largest share of the employed population (61%), followed by the government sector with 12.4%. 76.6% of the employed UAE nationals work in the government sector and 5.8% in the private sector. International branch campuses in Dubai offer 237 programmes.

9 Emiratisation initiatives in the government services and public administration sector
Emiratisation Plan in Federal Government Sector & Mechanism for Coordination and Follow-up ( ) Human Resources Strategy for , complementary to the successes achieved by the Emiratisation plan. The Strategy identified 5 main objectives and 15 sub goals which will be achieved through launching 22 approved initiatives. In 2012, UAE nationals accounted for 56% of the total workforce in the UAE federal government sector (both ministries and authorities). UAE nationals represented 60% of the employees in the federal ministries and only 26% of those working in the federal authorities (Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR)).
