The LIFE platform represents those fishermen who are engaged in small-scale fishing and their activities have a low environmental impact, but who at the same time have an important social and economic impact on the communities within the seashore regions. The aim of this organisation is to provide a clear and coherent voice at EU level for the previously mainly silent majority of European small-scale fishermen, who are practicing sustainable fishing operations by using low-impact fishing gears and methods, thus to obtain an effective representation in Brussels and at Member State level. Pilot project „Support Measures for Small-Scale Fishing” GRANT AGREEMENT FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN UNION: MARE / 2014/04 - SI Total amount of the project: EUR Total amount of the EU contribution: EU The implementation phase of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy is likely to be ongoing for some considerable time. The LIFE platform provides the necessary pathway between smaller scale fishermen who are desperately in need of positively influencing fisheries and marine environmental policies at a European level and the range of Commission officials, Member State politicians and Members of the European Parliament, who make and vote on the direction of travel for policies that will have a massive influence on the future for fishermen and their local communities. There is strength in unity and this is the essence that unites LIFE members. ”If united, we can develop common solutions to common problems, by relying on experience of thousands of European fishers, who may propose solutions, contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.” The LIFE platform already has member organisations from the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France, UK, Spain, Ireland and Greece, etc. Pilot Project – “Support Measures for Small-Scale Fishing” GRANT AGREEMENT FOR AN ACTION: MARE/2014/04-SI
