On Target? Do this on your Warm Up worksheet!
How does the information in DNA become the proteins that are responsible for a trait? DNA PROTEIN TRAIT
2
For Today: Warm Up Notes Dances with Ribosomes Diagram
Objective: I can use an analogy of the classroom as a cell to explain transcription/translation.

Ribosomes = purple blob
Amino acids = balloons DNA= Purple cards tRNA = green cards mRNA = white cards Nucleus = hallway Ribosomes = purple blob Dances with Ribosomes Directions: Pink DNA strand is out in the hallway (because it stays in the nucleus). Students should use the white mRNA cards to make a mRNA strand in order in the hallway. Then, students will enter the classroom in order and place the mRNA on the back counter and tape it together. (23 mRNA cards, so 23 students will be entering the classroom). 2-3 Students will be manning the ribosome. They will pick up the connected mRNA and run it through the ribosome, stopping at 3 letters at a time. The class will recognize which green tRNA card matches with it, and then which amino acid matches. A student with a matching green tRNA card will find the corresponding colored balloon, and then bring that balloon to the ribosome and tape the balloon onto the green string that is connecting the proteins together. Cytoplasm = classroom space Cell = 3rd floor of school!

Dances With Ribosomes In this activity we will be role-playing the processes of PROTEIN SYNTHESIS. Example: Zr9B-zLsA&t=101s (Dances with ribosomes example)
6
Dances with Ribosomes There is a purple strand of DNA on the wall in the hallway. Pick up a white mRNA card and line up the mRNA in order corresponding to the DNA in the hallway (There are only 23 mRNA cards, so not all students will be in the hallway. If you are not in the hallway, gather in the back to help your classmates tape the mRNA together) 2. Once the mRNA is in order, you will enter the classroom in a single file line and place your mRNA on the back counter to be taped in order.
