Objectives: Be aware of some of the types of accredited courses available to PE & Sport What benefits they offer.

How many different kind of proficiency awards can you do at school? Do you do any out side of school? Discussion make notes on board

3 Further qualifications Lets see how many you got?
BTEC – equivalent to GCSE and are vocationally based. GCSE – Single or double award. Can even do one in Dance. GCE – In two parts. AS level in first year. Then A2 in second year. Results is worth points which can be used for University places. Sports performance awards – Sports Leaders open from 14 years up. Proficiency testing & awards – Available through NGBs but can be delivered through school. E.g. Gymnastics BAGA awards, Football JFO award through the FA

4 Discuss the benefits of doing the GCSE PE course with your partner and make a note. (3 mins) Lets see how many you got?

5 What benefits does either your GCSE PE exam or Sports leaders offer you?
Looking at Sports Leaders for Example: Potential stepping stone into employment, further education or training Develops generic leadership skills that will be vital in other areas of life Allows those who are not sports superstars to take a full and active role in sport and physical activity Increased self-confidence that comes through taking responsibility for own and others learning and enjoyment.

6 Advantages of the GCSE in Physical Education
Prepares young people for 6th form and/or college based learning through coursework, presentations and written examinations· Helps to prepares young people for careers in the sport’s sector and industry, as well as the forces (e.g. Army)· Prepares students to become ‘leaders’ as well as being able to work as part of a team – again relevant to the workplace.· Natural Progression to Higher Learning – AS/A2 Sport and Physical Education or BTEC Any other appropriate answers.

7 Cross-curricular links Work with a partner 3mins
PE links to many other subjects in your curriculum and vice versa. How many links can you make? Explain how the inter- relate. Add any you have not got when students are feeding back.
