2. Eloise Jarvis McGraw
Eloise was an author of children’s books and young adults novels
She was born Dec. 9, 1915 and sadly died on Nov. 30, 2000
She was awarded the Newberry award three times in three different decades, for her books Moccasin Trail in 1952 , The Golden Goblet in 1962, and then the Moorchild in 1997
She also won an Edger Award for the Best Juvenile Mystery
She had a very strong interest in history related things
She Married William McGraw, and they had 2 children named Peter and Lauren
McGraw also helped the Oz series started by L. Frank Baum;
working with her daughter, graphic artist and librarian Lauren Lynn

3. The Golden Goblet
The story the Golden Goblet took place during ancient Egypt around 1400 BC
When young Ranofer’s father dies, he is stuck with his dreaded, abusive half-brother Gebu, who wont let him become a goldworker like his father.
He works where all the goldsmiths work, until Ranofer suspects Gebu and a friend of his to be sneaking and stealing Gold from the Goldsmith, and Rekh finds out from an from Ranofers friend, Hequet.
Ranofer is then apprenticed to Gebu at the stonecutting shop. But still talks with Hequet and their new, older friend, The Ancient.
Ranofer then finds a Golden Goblet in Gebu’s room and finds out is a tomb raider and has stolen treasures from tunnels into the pyramids.
Ranofer tells the daughter of the sun god Ra after he followed them into the pyramids and trapped them and they catch Gebu with one of his friends Wenamon and soon Ranofer will be apprenticed to Zau the great Goldsmith because of his help catching Gebu and Wenamon.
Ranofer is a good kid and sometimes was troubled because of Gebu
Gebu is a grumpy, abusive, non-caring half-brother, the stonecutter, and a tomb raider
Hequet is nice, saw the good in Ranofer, after he was rude and has a good sense of humor
The Ancient is a nice, wise man, who wants the best for friends Hequet and Ranofer
Wenamon is the friend who helped Gebu tomb raid through tunnels into the pyramids
The plot was to find out a way to get Gebu in trouble without seeming like Ranofer helped so they followed Gebu
The Conflict was that they were hiding gold in wineskins that Ranofer carried without knowing golds inside, and then he was going to bring the Golden Goblet for proof once the wineskins stopped and it was gone.

4. Ancient Tomb Raiders and the Afterlife
Some tomb raiders, such as Gebu and Wenamon, used hidden tunnels to get into the pyramids.
Tomb Raiding in Egypt is when someone steals valuables from someones tomb, probrably in a pyramid.
Tomb Raiding was a big deal because the afterlife was a big part of their culture and in the afterlife, their “ka” has to be happy and entertained.
Tomb Raiders stole valuables from elites, and people of great power in Egypt
They Believe that they need to be entertained in their afterlife.
Egyptians put food, money, and many precious items in the tomb because they believed that is what the “ka” would own in the afterlife.

5. Goldsmiths in Ancient Egypt
A goldsmith is a person who’s specialty is working and crafting with gold and other valuable metals .
They make many things such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc…
Smithing was taught through apprenticeship.
In the story Ranofer’s father Thutra was a Goldsmith and Ranofer wished to be a Goldsmith but Gebu did not care
In Egypt Goldworkers made special jewelry and other items for elites, and Pharoahs
